I have just got back from the health visitors and found out mealeah 1yr has lost so much weight she has almost gone back to the weight she was at 9mnths old sher has steadily been loosing weight over past 3mnths but this time was a 1kg drop.

My hv said if she doesnt put on weight by giving here fatty foods in the next 2 weeks she will have to be admittied to haspital.

Apparentley she has a very high matabolism (sp?).

I need some ideas for calorie filled fatty foods suitable for a 1yr old but everywhere i look people are telling me that fatty foods are not good for children no matter what the problem.

HELP please.......

How much milk does she drink hun? Lots of full fat milk and home made foods containing full fat milk should help!
Things like rice pudding, fish in cheese sauces etc will be full of fat from the milk used in it!

maybe when making meals for ur LO hun add more cheese to them then u would for others - im suprised ur HV hasnt given u any ideas or advice on food to give ur LO - youghurts are also great - children under 5yrs old shouldnt have any diet or low fat products in their diets ideally.

full fat milk with a balanced diet should be enough hun - might be worth asking a HV about going bk on formula but might be worth a go. Kiss

Fat is good for babies and toddlers, it is what they are designed to eat, just look at breast milk mainly fat and intended for the first two years, too many doctors and HV's are on the only eat fruit and vegetables band wagon. Change her formula to a higher fat formula if she does not already have one.

How many ounces of formula does she normally have a day and how much solid food?

She is not on formula any more she drinks / uses a total of 3 pints of full fat cows milk a day. she has 3 full meals a day generally the same as we eat and snacks inbetween rusks etc.

i would suggest perhaps using full cream yoghurts and full cream milk, you could try giving her bread, does she eat sandwiches?

also weatabix? you could use them to bulk her up.

good luck and let us know how she goes

Hi hun, does she eat a good size meal of solids in a day? Only asking as 3pts of milk in a day is quite a lot and may be lilling her up too much to eat enough other full fat food for her to be gaining weight? I algree on the youghurt and cheese sauces etc. Make up a big pot and freeze it hun. You can then use it for pasta/fish/veg etc. I would also make things like spagetti bolognese and beef/lamb stew etc. It will contain fat from the meat in it, but she will also be getting plently of veg in that sort of meal too. Also toast with butter (No Salt), fingers of cheese, pasta is a good one too. I really hope she starts to put weight on soon hun and you can keep her away from hospital! I would also go back to the HV and ask what aort of foods and how often you should be feeding her. Or whether there is a special type of formula you could put her on that may help? Kiss Xx

I have to search for high calories.. but try to balance the sort of food you give him. Milk and dairy are good options..

I have a 2-year-old daughter who also had the same problem. My sister suggested me to make her drink Probiotics. Since then, her metabolism boosted and her digestion became good. Hope that my advice will help you Smile
