Anyone had a water birth?

hi, I'm thinking of a birth plan as you do! Tomorrow by baby will be "viable"! Baby
Has anyone had a water birth in a birthing pool and what was it like? would you recommend it?
I have also just been diagnosed with SPD - it's crap!!! So I walk VERY slowly everywhere now and was thinking a water birth might ease the pain.

It's almost banned in our hospitals for sanitary issues. But I heard in lamaze class thatthey can really help ease the pain and relax you. I don't think it has any effect on the baby.

i didnt have a water birth but did have a bath for about an hour n half (i fell asleep) it seemed to help me quite abit. my friend had planned a water birth was in the pool for a while but decided against actually giving birth in there.
i dunno if that helps at all.

I was going to have a water birth with DD. It was all planned and the pool was run for me. Unfortunately things then went a tad wrong and i ended up having an emergency c-section before i could use the pool. Such a shame as i would have loved too. I did use the bath for pain relief while i was in labour at home with DD. I wasn't allowed with Jake as i had had c-section i had to be continually monitored. I also carry GBS so had to have an intravenous antibiotic drip. I used a tens for pain relief with DS. My friend did labour at the hospital in their birthing pool and loved it. She would definitely opt to use it again. unfortunately ahe didn't deliver in the pool as baby was coming out with her hand next to her head and was a bit caught up which caused her to start to get a tad distressed so they asked her to get out and delivered her while she was on the bed. She has said she will try again though and wants to deliver her next baby in water.
Sorry about the SPD hun, it is horrible isn't it. I had it fairly mildly (compared to some) with DS and it was still awful. especially trying to roll over in bed Sad Face I hope yours doesn't get any worse Xx

Hello! I'm shattered today - back to work! I want to stop working now esp with my SPD, it's getting worse. Waiting for a physio to ring me for an appt. Baby is being quite these past few days, but still wriggling at night as I go to sleep! Maybe it's the back to work and me rushing round after 3 and 4 year olds all day that makes him quiet! How things with you?
Thanks for the info on the birthing pool, i've heard only positive things about it! Going to speak to my midwife and see what provision there is at my hospital.

xx
