As you know, I've been breastfeeding since Sophie was born. Unfortunately for me I've already had a full on period Sad Face So much for not getting those until you finish breastfeeding!

Anyway, I was due on again on Monday of this week and not a sign.

Has anyone else had this happen? I'm hoping they may have gone away until I finish BF now Very happy That or I'm pregnant again already Shocked

they will probably be hit and miss

they probably came back because sophie sleeps so long t night, any longer than 4 hours without a feed and your periods may return

dont worry about it and if you are not on any contraception ......
GO AND GET SOME Mad

cerazette is the best one if your breastfeeding as you get a 12 hour window if you forget

I didn't know that longer than 4 hours can get your periods to return.

I can't take any contraceptive pills of any kind. I do natural family planning so I'm pretty sure I'm ok Very happy LOL

Lol, I would say they will definitely be hit and miss for a few months hun. My periods didn't return for a few months after i had Jake as i was BF for a little while (although not exclusively). Although my friend didn't have a period for around 18mths she BF too, although obviously by the time they returned she wasn't feeding very much at all. Just the occasional morning feed and a night-time one. After the initial one it took another few months before they got to any regular pattern again. I also had a friend who bottle fed from the start but still didn't come on again for 5months? (I wish! eh) lol. Still, my point is, everyone is different. I definitely wouldn't get too worried yet. Sounds perfectly normal to me! Xx

Well, my period has arrived today Sad Face I really hoped that I'd be one of the lucky ones and continue with no periods until I stopped BF but that's not to be. I've really enjoyed 9 months + without them, especially as I suffer badly with them Teeth

At least I'm not pregnant again...yet Halo

Mummies a midwife, her brain informs, that if you do not feed on demand your periods can return and you have no protection against pregnancy. She also said no contraception is good for breastfeeding, non-hormonal IUD is ok, but it does cause fertilised eggs to be aborted. She said if the baby no longer feeds on demand pump so that you expell every four hours and your periods will stop again, plus then you can donate the expressed milk or freeze it.

Thanks Samuel. I do feed on demand and have done from the beginning. She has taken to feeding every 2-3 hours, mostly 2 at the moment. She doesn't feed during the night (she sleeps through now) so I wonder if I need to express in the night to get the milk supply up too as I feel maybe she's not getting enough if she's wanting a feed every 2 hours during the day?

You can pump when she isn't feeding, or just before a feed so then she is getting less foremilk on each feed so she shouldn't be as hungry. Is she going through a growth spurt at the moment? Unless she is losing weight or her growth slows down alot, I wouldn't be worried.

She puts on about 4oz a week and is following a centile line nicely. The HV isn't worried about her weight at all. She might be going through a growth spurt as she's a bit grumpy these last few days and is sleeping a bit more during the day, but is alert and happy when she's awake. I think I will express the foremilk a bit like you suggest - sounds a very good idea, thank you Smile

feeding every two hours is fine - im still feeding hourly

charlie is going through a growth spurt at the moment and has had me up more in the night and has quite grumpy

im sure you will find the new feeding pattern is because of a growth spurt
