Uh Oh the name we have chosen

for blue bump may be out of the window.

As you may remember me mentioning we had decided on Rossi James, and it was practically definate (well we have no other choices or ideas and we loved Rossi)

But after thinking about it i really do not like Ross and fear this is what people will shorten it too. Also i'm not sure it goes with Marks surname ( the lovely Wellard Razz )

I also mentioned Rossi as a name on another forum and only one person out of 20 actually said they liked it. Most others said they thought it sounded babyish or said they couldn;t imagine an older man with that first name Suspect

The only other name we ever liked and agreed on was William (after DP's grandfather) but it sounds too much with DP's surname.

Any suggestions....or opinions??

Much love

Achey Wolfblass xx

I wouldnt let anyone put you off the name if you like it. It is up to you what youi call your child.

I am Alexandra to all my family, always have been. My dad never wanted my name shortened but knew when I got older friends would shorten it but he has always said that they WILL NEVER shorten it and he has to put up with others shortening my name.

If I try to call Joseph Joe or anything else Joseph corrects me as he has always been Joseph from frineds and family

If you want Rossi, then call him that all the time but be prepared he may decide when he is older to shorten it himself. Most people have a shortened version of their name, or a nickname of some sort.

And I agree with the William Wellard!!!! Wink

Hun i agree with Alex.If you like the name Rossi then stick to ya gun's and tell people that its his name and it WONT be shortened!!!
Not everyone will like names that you pick out for your child so dont worry to much about what others may like or dislike. My SIL dislikes both my childrens names and lets me know about it Suspect but i really dont care as i think it suits them and im happy.lol!!

I didn't really tell many people what we decided to call George because I had people telling me what I should call Charlotte. Some of my family don't like George's name but tough!

As for shortening, Charlotte gets Lottie a lot, but sometimes if she is that way out she will tell people her name's Charlotte hehe!!! George gets Georgie, his name ends up being lengthened!!

If you really like the name go for it! Smile

I like Rossi its different, but if you like it, but worried about how hellcope with it when hes older why not make it a middle name, he could still have an R name, what about Robert? or you could have Rossi as his 1st name and William as the middle name.

Rossi William Wellard has a kind of ring to it dont you think?

or

William Rossi Wellard, that sounds nice too.

Ill try to see if i can find another list of R names that might be useful

Thanks guys you are all so kind! Love Thanks for restoring my faith in our original decision...

There are no other names at all that we jointly like!

I love Harry, Archie and Jacob - whereas Mark despises all of them!

You are right about people shortening names, DD is Georgia-Mae and this is shortened to George, Georgie, GM etc - but she still prefers Georgia-Mae Very happy

I'm officially Rebecca-Jayne, family call me Becca, but i'm usually Becs or Beccy (i personally dislike the spelling Becky and decided i was Beccy when i was 10 lol) to DP other family and friends...

DP is set on Rossi and i admit that i still love it... maybe i'm just worrying now bumps arrival is getting ever closer to what people think of the name. Suspect I'm not so bothered what my son will think when he's older as let's face it - who is perfectly happy with their name? Wink And he will make his own judgement on what he wants to be called..

Do you prefer:

Rossi James Wellard

Rossi Aaron Wellard

Rossi William Wellard

I also think you should go with what you like and not worry about other people's opinions.

My sister thought Sophie was an 'odd' name for us to choose. I didn't understand what she meant by that and never bothered to dig deep as she couldn't really explain it but said she didn't think it was our kind of name - whatever that means Blink

My best friend said she only ever thought of blondes when she thought of Sophie so couldn't imagine a dark haired one and it seemed strange to her but she said no doubt once she meets Sophie, she will have a dark haired association too.

To everyone since she was born, she IS Sophie - nothing else.

Go with your gut feelings the pair of you and he will be who you name him Very happy

For what it's worth, I like Rossi too.

I have to agree with everyone else hun. Go with your gut instinct on this one. If you like the name Rossi then go with it. If people shorten it and you aren't happy then ask them not to. When he is older he will be able to choose what he prefers.
I am Amanda but always have been mandy to friends and family. Lauren has been Lolly almost since she was born and Jake was monkey at first but as that can't last forever he is Jakey quite a bit now! I have to say i do think some people (mostly celebs) go way overboard when choosing a name sometimes. I really feel for the poor child when they are named something really silly like Apple for instance?
I have to confess we didn't tell anyone our choices before we had the kids as we had a really hard time agreeing on names (like you) and i didn't want to be put off a name i liked. I knew once they were born people would just accept what we had chosen and even if they didn't like our choice most would keep their mouths shut by this stage!
Oh and just to add to the poll, i like Rossi too Very happy !

This is our fave at the moment too!

Thansk everyone for your comments Very happy

Kristag - i have a Sophie in my family who is dark haired and know none who are blond at all Wink PMSL

I loved the name Ebony when i was pg with Georgia-Mae - but DP said he could only imagine a girl with dark hair with that name - which i found rather bizarre at the time too... Suspect

I'm actaully surprised (and secretly pleased) that so many of you have said you like Rossi!!!

Thanks xxxx

Can I say - and don't all hate me Sad Face - that I don't like the name Rossi. BUT - and here is my point. Who am I? No-one.

If you like it the go for it! Very happy

When I was little I hated anyone shortening my name to Sam and even now it get's my goat. I suspect this was due to my parents insisting that my name is Samantha and not Sam. So if you instill the same idea in Rossi's head he will be like that too.

As for it sounding childlike - I don't think it does. So stick your tounge out to those people! Razz

I do not mind people saying that they don't like it tbh - i know most people do not like many names they were given.

To be honest when i look through all the name threads on that site some of the names people are coming up with or people recommend are in my opinion atrocious.

People are reverting back to 'old' names that are no longer in fashion so there's alot of Hilda, Hilary, Ursula, Enid , Barbara etc flying around and then names like Theodore, Barney, Baldrick, Ernest etc which are so not my cup of tea... and people seem to get jumped upon if they choose a more common or usual name! Wink

(although i do think some old classic names that are unused are very chic - just not sure i'd choose them myself)

For example a colleague of mine had a baby earlier this year and named her Prudence Ethel - you should of seen everyones faces at work! At first i really wasn't sure about it, but i quite like Pru for short! And it's what she wanted (people were very shocked as they are a young couple etc ..but hey it works for them!)

We are sticking with Lewis Robert for boy and Jessica Charlotte for girl, I am hoping I will get another scan nearer to due date as I did with Gem but it wasn't because there were problems just to see how big she might be... can see them doing that again as they want to see how I fair for a natural delivery and if bubs is too big that probably won't happen! Jer was apparantly 11lbs 5oz at birth, c-section unsurprisingly!! Shocked

We had a late xmas early new year party last night but thankfully I wasn't the only 1 not drinking alcohol!!

If you like the name then stick with it. If others say nay then just tell them you could do alot worse like those humiliating ones we hear about.
If you don't want others shortening his name to Ross then you can say so. But if he rather Ross then you just let his friends call him by that and you can still call him Rossi, Thats how it is with my man. Everyone calls him Rob except his own family calls him Robert.
And I don't see whats so bad sounding of Rossi James. Sounds kinda western. My daughter's sounds western too, but it's not even close to western name. There are soooo many names you can choose from that you could easily get confused. Stick withthe one you guys choose. It's good for you relationship.

I love the name Lewis and Jessica and Charlotte too (DD and me noth liked charlotte for a pink bump - DP just kept syaing Jessica Rabbit Wink and wasn't so keen) however i personally think it's a lovely name and not used very much these days which is a definate bonus!

Georgia-Mae has an imaginary baby boy in her tummy which is called Louis Dalek / Lewis Dalek at the moment PMSL.... She asked mark to place his hand on her tummy yesterday to see if baby wanted to kick him Shocked Hopefully this will pass (i know she is only pretending and doesn't believe there is a babe in there - lol!)

Thanks glowingsun - you are right! We both love the name and it's staying!
