On saterday am going to do a membrane sweep if Jack havent come yet. I am a little nerves about it bc i dont really know how it works. Any one that can tell me something about it?
The midwife will do an internal exam and run her fingers around your cervix in the hope that it will stimulate things. If you have had a smear test it is no more uncomfortable than that. You will be fine.
Aww hun, it is nerve wracking when it is your first experience but as Alex said you will be fine. I never had to have a membrane sweep as both mine came before the appointment for it but as Alex says it isn't any more uncomfortable than a smear (according to friends of mine anyway) and you never know, little Jack may show his face before you even get to that point hun. I have my fingers crossed you won't have to wait too long Xx
I've never experienced it either but if the other's say it will be ok then I'm sure it will. Maybe he'll come before that time gets here Keep us updated and try not to worry too much sweety!
I had two with Sophie. The first was at the docs done by the MW. It wasn't uncomfortable at all. The second was done in hospital after I'd had the gel and that was very uncomfortable and I really knew it was happening. Having said that, it helped kick everything off and Sophie was born a bit later that day so I hope it works for you hun

A membrane sweep is when the midwife moves her finger in a circle around the inside of your cervix, next to where the bag of waters (membranes)is. This stimulates the cervix and can start the production of hormones need for labour to begin. It can be uncomfortable while being done (like a PAP Smear test), but is a good way of trying to help your body go into labour without the use of drugs or more invasive procedures- such as having your waters broken.
I dont know what am doing up this early. It was hard to fall a sleep lastnight, last time i did look at the time it was past 5am. I have been up for 1hour so far to.
I know it is nothing to worry about bc you guys have told me that it is fine and i do belive it, Rich tells me that everything will be fine. Rich is fast asleep behind me.
I was the same when I went to be induced, they told me to get plenty of sleep before I came in, I was up at 4am that morning, then I decided to do some cleaning lol!
Aww hun, try and get some good rest later if you can. You will need all your energy for when you do go into labour! Good luck with the sweep hun, i really hope it works. Keep us updated how you go hun Xx
I'm glad it wasn't so bad as you thought it would be... Come on Jack, we're all waiting for you.... especially Mummy and Daddy and big brother I bet too!! He must be getting super excited too!!
So far nothing. The MW did say that we can try to do a new sweep on tuesday and see if it works. Ans she did book a time at the hosp on friday, so latest friday Jack is here i hope.
