Just pregnant and wondering about lifting stuff.

Not only am I a newbie on here I just found out (one test last night and one test this morning) that I am pregnant.
I have worked out I am 5 weeks. Yay!
Anyway, I cannot tell my parents because they are spliting up and next weekend I have to go and move my Mum out of their house.
There will be a wardrobe and a chest of draws to move and other boxes.
She cannot help as she is disabled and so I just want to know if moving a couple of heavy items is risky.
My husband will try his best to move all the heavy stuff, poor thing, but I will have to help with some stuff.
Any advice would be really appreciated.

Hi there and congratulations! I am Louise and I am 12 weeks pregnant with my 3rd child. If you do have to lift anything, make sure it's nothing you could strain yourself with. You could always say that you have a bad back? Look after yourself!

Hun I wouldn't advise lifting a wardrobe! Maybe sort out with your husband before hand, what you are going to move. You can move bags etc, light boxes and he can do the heavier stuff. Like has already been mentioned, maybe say you've had a bad back Suspect

Is there anyone else that you could get to lend a hand, a friend maybe? Then your husband will have some help with the heavy stuff.

Congratulations on your pregnancy though and welcome to JP

It's not just the weight of the things it is also if you are twisting and turning with things as you'll be straining your abdoman. Having said all this when I was pregnant with my first (and had not yet tested and therefore didn't know),I moved home and was shifting furniture about. Carrying big boxes of all my clutter and pushing my bed, chest of drawers sofa, etc about. However I personally wouldn't knowingly lift heavy things whilst pregnant, perhaps as said already you should fein an injury and just move lighter things.

Sometimes you'll be in situations where you have to move something heavy. You should not lift or push or pull something that makes you strain. To lift a box that is managable, make sure your back is straight and your knees are bent. Never bend your waist when your lifting or setting down a box or anything. Bend from the hips if you need to bend your mid section.

Firstly congratulations

I would also say you have pulled your back, as anything big to lift is a big no no for sure.

I've always heard not to lift anything over 30 lbs...

Welcome to JP! Congratulations on your pregnancy!! and no heavy lifting!! Tounge Out I agree with the others, if you can't tell anyone yet than I would feign an injury to get out of lifting the heavy stuff! Wink
