Charlies birth story

its not too exciting im afraid the whole thing only lasted 4 hours and 27 mins

i went to bed and got woken up at 11pm by a sharp pain in my back that felt like a strong contraction (dan made a note of the time), i went to the toilet and had another one and we saw that they were 5 mins apart

so we got dressed, called a taxi and got to hospital at midnight

i was put on a bed and strapped to a monitor (which pissed me off because of my birth plan) but she released me after 10 mins of read-out (which took 30 mins to get because baby kept moving) i was given gas and air (which worked this time) and i had just 1 midwife who didn't tell me off for anything

i was examined and found to be only 2cms dilated :dizzy: so they basically left me to progress, i was released from machine and waddled about, sat on birthing ball, crawled around on all fours untill i got a slight urge to push so we called midwife back

she said i was only 7 cms and not to push for a bit, it was a different midwife as the otherone was having her break, she said that they normally send home ladies who are only 2cms but as i seemed distressed they let me stay (i wasn't sure how to take that - was she saying i was a wimp ?)

after a few more contractions she said i could push and after a few pushes she said i should stop and do little pushes then she told me to go for it. She told dan to take the gas and air off me which he couldn't do because i was enjoying biting down on the mouth peice and after a very painfull push i felt the head pop out she told me to keep on pushing so i carried on and the rest of him followed

she tried to wrap him in towels but i brought him straight to me (second midwife didn't get a chance to read my birthplan because i was so quick) and got my skin to skin contact which calmed him down and i tried to feed him but he was more interested in looking around, dan cut the cord and charlie reached up and grabbed the scissor handles and it took all 3 of us to get him to let go (very good grip)

i refused the 3rd stage injection (someone please read my birth plan) and after two pushes it came out, i managed to get it donated to cord blood banking so hopefully it can help another child somewhere

he weighs 3.64kgs/8lbs2oz was born at 3.27am and according to my notes my second stage (pushing) of labour lasted 7 mins (it felt alot longer!) my 3rd stage (placenta) was 12mins (makes you wonder why they want to inject you with drugs just for the sake of a few minutes) i had 1 small graze so no stitches again

Jakes labour was 19hours (Lolly's was 32 then c-section!) and loads of stitches! So glad all went so well for you though hun (even if i am a tad jealous! Razz )hehe. Fingers crossed he is a good little man and lets you get some much deserved rest xx
