Jake had his 9mth check the other day (a tad early, i know? Lolly didn't have hers until 11mths lol) Anyway when he was weighed and measured he was still a little on the small side. Just over 9th centile for weight, nearly 50th for height and 9th for head circumference. The HV said he is growing and not to be too worried (his head was on the 9th centile at birth) but she said he was still a tad small. He looks fine to me and has a proper little 'buddah' belly. lol (no offence meant to anyone) he eats fine and hasn't really had any health concerns so far? (touch wood). has anyone else had a little tiddler? Should i be more worried? or is that just the way he is? I would think you could tell a baby that was severly under or overweight just by looking at them anyway?

George was only just above the 2nd centile at his 8 month check (He was only 17.1 lbs Shocked ). The intial HV was really good and said although he weight was really low she was happy it just seemed to be his make up. I went to the clinic again 5 ish weeks later after being advised to just check he wasn't losing any and saw a different HV...she was a total witch!!! He'd put a few ounces on, but it wasn't good enough and I must be feeding him wrong etc. I was devasted, she dressed me down infront of all the other mums, saying he seemed to be crying a lot while I was putting his clothes back on (making me out to be rough) Sad Face I got told to bring him back in 4 weeks and she wanted to see him with a substantial amount of weight on him...I knew even if I'd fed him McDonalds for 4 weeks he wouldn't have put the weight on!

I did find that when i introduced cows milk he seemed to put weight on, I always had a feeling the formula somehow didn't quite agree with him, but I'll never know Suspect

he had his 2 year check last month and he is bang on the 50th centile Very happy

Thanks sarah, I'm not too worried as he is gaining weight, just quite slowly. He is 18lb. He LOVES his food and opens his mouth like a little baby bird the minute he sees a spoon! lol. He has really chubby cheeks too so doesn't look particularly small, just sometimes i think the HV can worry you a bit that it isn't normal sometimes? I mean to get a 50th centile (or average) you have to have bigger and smaller babies too right? So why do they say things to make you feel like you should be doing more?
Your second HV sounds awful hun, did you complain? I think i would have done, how rude! Tounge Out The HV i had when i had Lolly was awful too, she asked really inappropriate questions that i felt wasn't any of her business - like how often does my DF check his testicles? Blink Some really strange stuff too! I asked her to leave my house in the end as she started to say we weren't very good parents if we occaionally had takeaways! Shocked Just us that is, not even the kids?

Aaralyn's always been way smaller for her age too... especially as an infant to baby, but she always grew at a good rate so her dr was never concerned... she's starting to sprout up now but she's still a skinny little thing... lil bean pole LOL Love

Sounds like Jake's a healthy kid to me! Aaralyn's old Dr said that the problem with obesity in children these days is throwing off the average and making it seem as if smaller kids are even smaller on the percentile scale, he said it to where it made more sense than I just did though Wink

Lol, thanks hun, you made perfect sense to me, i have thought along those lines myself! Lolly was a really chubby little thing as a baby and i just though Jake would be the same? However now she is a little skinny thing too! She will be 3 in January and is still wearing 18mth-2yr clothes? I'm sure the sizes are getting bigger? Age 2-3 seems huge on her from most places? Especially woolworths and tesco. (i know you don't have these stores tam?i'm sure you must have stores that vary a lot in size though?) in these stores she is still in 12-18mths? Shocked Obviously just the way my kids are made? I wish i was! lol

I think I should have complained hun, but I was so upset I just got out of there. I never took him back to be re-weighed because I was scared that something might happen if he wasn't at the satisfactory weight. They never checked to see why I hadn't gone back, not a phone call or anything.

It annoys me that a lot of HV's think if the babys are not 'to the book' that there is something wrong. I was dreading I'd get the same HV again at his 2 yr check, but fortunately not.
