This is crazy! I don't know much about geography but I'm pretty sure Canada is a little bit bigger than England let alone the UK and we seem to have this problem sorted that I know of, admittedly we do need to get our kids on the waiting list almost when they are born but they seem to have spaces pretty much when the kids are at the age to go into play schools!
We have all private day care here or only pre-k through the public school system... or through charities like Salvation Army..... it is extremely expensive and not all states have good assistance programs for low income or single working parents.... I was lucky in Rhode Island to get assistance until I started making too much money... here in Maryland I didn't qualify right off the bat... I'm so glad that Aaralyn is in full time kindie now, that is going to help tremendously!! saving $185.00 a week, now only paying 190.00 a month for after school care.... There are some places with waiting lists and some with openings, it's hit or miss with that here...
I suppose it's pretty much hit or miss with anything! Last year I was due in for an operation and was LUCKY to only wait 4 or 5 months because of a cancellation and even my op was then cancelled for a further month or so! Bloody (not sure if I can say so please correct me if it's needed) annoying as I'm sure you will agree as it stopped me going back to work, I finally get back on my feet and I get it back so I'm waiting for yet another op for that. It's been about a month now and I'm STILL waiting for the appointment just to check it let alone waiting for an operation!!!
