Too old to go overdue - possible membrane sweep?

Having seen my consultant this afternoon, she told me I'm at a higher risk of having a stillbirth if I go overdue Tounge Out It shocked me a bit and I began to worry that it would happen anyway which she said was not the case, that they just stop people over 35 going overdue for that reason.

I'm 42 so I'm feeling distinctly old! Crying

Anyone else been told this? Also apparently if little one hasn't made an appearance by around 38 weeks, they'll do a membrane sweep to encourage her along. I've read all sorts about them from them being worse than labour itself to them being nothing painful or to worry about. Anyone had experience of one of these?

I've got a way to go so I think I'll be starting the hot curries around 34 weeks!! Very happy

ok dont worry I had one of these last time as I went 10 days over and it worked labour started after 48 hours of having the sweep, also I think the idea of not being able to go over after 35 is fab as I went over 9 days with first and 10 with 2nd and was so fed up,I tried everything and nothing worked but the sweep,am hoping next time I will be 35 and wont have to go overdue again lol, also the sweep is a little uncomfortable a bit like a smear but not unbearable

a sweep is nothing to worry about hun, slighlty uncomfortable and embarrasing but nothing else. I had 2 sweeps and although it didnt start labour off it softened my cerfix so the gel hit the spot quicker when I was induced.

Thanks for the reassurance! It's nice to know that you survived them and it wasn't like a form of medievil torture Very happy

Hopefully we won't get that far but it did seem a bit of a scary prospect.
