I always had hamsters when i was a kid, but i have to say i wouldn't have one now......because they are nocturnal they are asleep when the kids wanna play with em, and awake and being annoying in the their wheels ALL night......i remember the last one i had as a kid i had to put in the wardrobe and the noise of it drove me insane at night, tho i guess it depends on where you're gonna keep it.

I found hamsters to be nippy too, and rabbits didn't work with my lot cos they wanted something to cuddle n the house while watching tv etc, and weren't too happy about going outside in the cold and rain to see the rabbits.....that their interest and enthusiasm wore off very quickly.........

Fish are good LOL but a dog or cat are the ones i would have IF the manthing wasn't allergic to stuff with fur *swears a lot* we used to have 2 german shepherds and cats, and now nothing, even tho the house is usually full of kids, mine and others, i still feel theres something missing now we don't have animals in the house.

I love dogs but can be lots of work & bit of a tie if you wanna go on hols. But then if you've got a mate or family nearby who'll look after them while you're away, I guess that's problem solved! Smile

my mum has two cats and a dog and my little 4month old loves them. unfortunately we can't have a pet in the private flat but as soon as we get a council place im getting her a kitten and a puppy that she can grow up with pets i say are the best things to have with kids.

I had a house trained rabbit, until last week Sad Face he had to be put to sleep unfortunately but they are good company.

We have also got a dog, Roxie, she's the loveliest dog. Freakily she always knew I was pregnant, she would lay her head on my stomach. She's protective over the kids too, when we're out she will always walk next to the buggy.

This is our dog Mavrick.
We will not be TTC#5 so with all four kids at school and the demands of my Husbands job Mavrick keeps me company now.
He is a snuggler and loves to walk. He would walk 8 to 10 miles a day if I would take him, but any walk is great fun with him.
Mavrick gets along great with all the kids and treats my Husband like a playmate.
I have never had a pet before now I could not even think of life with out my dog.

Awwwwwwww he's so lovely, I love the company of our dog, my DH works nights and we got Roxie before we had kids so I felt safer on my own, not that I think she would actually do anything to an intruder than lick them to death LOL!!![/img]
