Tip toeing in children??

I've always 'tiptoed' since learning to walk, my mum said she had been told by the doctor I would grow out of it, but I never did. I remember her forever shouting 'tiptoes' at me because I was on them!!

I'm not as bad since I had surgery on my ankle to have a pin inserted after 2 nasty breaks and was taught to walk again through physio as they showed me how to walk heel to toe.

Charlotte does it now and again but now has me shouting 'tiptoes' at her lol. George is really bad for it though, he never puts his heel down, he learned to walk on his tiptoes Confused We tell him to get off his toes but he doesn't really understand. I wondered if it is worth getting this checked out while he's young? I know it can shorthen the tendons in the backs of the legs (its done it to mine) so if anything may need doing, its best now rather than later? Or do you think I'm just overreacting over nothing. I was going to ask the hv about it at his 2yr check, but i'm a little worried it will be the horrible one who made me out to be starving him and I don't need her to fling any more mud at me Tounge Out

I used to walk on my tiptoes when I first starting cruising- GP ordered my mum to go and get me a pair of heavy boots to wear to pull my heels down (she had to fight with the shoe shop as I wasnt walking properly) That worked for me. I would mention it to HV, better safe than sorry(and something having to be down several years down the line)

Hi hun,i was in the same boat as you,i took Vic for a check up to a pediatrist(sp)when he was two and she told me he would grow out of it(he still hasnt)they will then check if the tiptoeing is causing the tendons to shorten or if there are any further problems.Vic still walks on tippys but not as bad they told me to get him to wear flat soled shoes or boots (he trips over)but he is getting there.
(i dont walk on my tiptoes but my brother still does and always has lol) Suspect

I've a feeling I will also get told he'll just grow out of it too to be honest.

Even if they can suggest something to bring his heels down, he wears trainers and at home he is usually barefoot so I'm not putting him in anything high heeled.

Thanks for all the replies Smile
