Hi,
I am seeing my midwife on tuesday about induction, has any one been induced with their 1st and what was their experience??
has anyone got any stories about induction?
I haven't myself but my sister was induced, she was given the internal gel stuff (not sure what its called) she had my nephew within 45mins. Sorry i know thats not very helpful.
I was induced at 40+6 weeks
I was admitted to the hospital on the Thursday (as I had a high base line
) and I was giving a membrane sweep that night.
On the Friday I was given the gel at 7pm, I then had to lie for 30-40mins so the gel wouldnt come back out and would get a chance to work, I was also on a CTG the whole time. During the CTG trace I had some strong tightenings but was told that was normal, My mum left the hospital at 10pm and was told nothing would happen over night about 20minutes later I was in agony and being sick- after still being told it was after pains for what seemed ages the MW checked me- I was 2cms.
Had a good night as I was given morphine to make me sleep (they didnt want me going in the night)
I was checked at 11am and I was then 5cms and moved to delivery, they tried to break my waters but had no luck. I was on a CTG trace the whole time in delivery room and finally had to be put on a drip to requlate contractions as I had constant pains. After 2 pushes at 6.20 Joseph was born at 6.25pm
My friend has a different stroy with her forst- she was induced 5 times over 3 days with the gel before she was dilated enough to break her waters and then she was about 8 hours in active later.
Hope that helps

Not myself but my friend was induced with her first and they did the sweep, nothing, then another sweep nothing then gave the stuff(don't know what it is) but she said because it took a long time waiting she had an epidural. The second time she was going to be induced but she went into labour about 12 hours before she was due to go to the hospital.
I was induced with my first as I was 11 days overdue. I was given a double dose of gell at around 9pm and pretty much started with pains straight away. I was monitored pretty much all the way through my labour which i personally found uncomfortable as I wasn't able to get up and move around or get in a comfortable position to ride out the pain of contractions. I was given pethedine on the ward and I went to sleep for a while. I got up and went to the loo to have my waters break. I was then sent to the delivery suite. (I had my whole 1st stage on the ward lol). I had my daughter about 6hrs after having the gell put in, my notes said I was about 3hrs in established labour.
i was induced due to hypertension on the day she was due. they inserted a pessary at 8pm sat by 12am sun morning i had contractions started very mild but had started lol they broke my waters at 10.30am sunday morning and she was born at 5.25pm sunday morning. was nothing scary at all just a pessary and if they do it at night you forget about it and go to sleep lol.
hope this helps hun. theres a chance i may have to be induced again with this one and have to have my waters brok.
if you are still unsure about anything ask your midwife she will be completely honest.
nothing to worry about i promise i was petrified as it was my first aswell.
