Flying short haul late in pregnancy

Hi everyone

If all goes well with this pregnancy, I already have a holiday booked for the school hols in August to take my 9 year old daughter away for 2 weeks to Turkey. However, I will be 31 weeks when we leave!

I just fit into the 'must return before the start of your 34th week' rule the airline has but I wondered have any other ladies gone away on holiday at that stage or later?

The flight is only about 4 hours so it's not too bad but I am a little concerned about how I might feel and how big I'll be by then. Obviously, as you will guess, ending up pregnant now is a lovely surprise but just that...a surprise Smile

Looking forward to hearing from you.

i thort it was 36weeks! ah well... anyways, i flew in my preg with ethan... the only advice i have is to have plenty of water to drink (the air is much dryer up there) make sure u sit in a aisle seat - ur gonna keep gettin up to pee! and make sure u wear the flight socks and walk up and down every 20mins or so - the furthur into pregnancy the higher the risk of DVT... but most importantly - make the most of ur hol and the time with your LO

That's good advice. Thank you Smile

How far pregnant were you when you flew?

I am certainly going to enjoy the holiday, particularly the swimming pool I would imagine Very happy

I thought about trying to bring the holiday forward but hubby can't get time off before then Sad Face Mind you, I'm not sure 1 or 2 weeks would make a vast difference!

I'm looking forward to the sunshine but I'll buy a big sun hat too Very happy

check with your MW or GP for advice.

I think a holiday before baby comes is a good idea Very happy

i work for an airline and most require you to have a fit to fly note from your doctor and that has to contain that you are ..weeks pregnant and that you are fit to fly it has to state how many weeks you are and that you are definately fit to travel im not sure if the date or how many weeks you will be when you return is also required your doctor should know but as far as im aware the note has to be from your doc and not the mw.

on the airline i work for its a note from 28weeks and you must be returning before your 36th week i think its pretty standard across the board on most airlines.

i personally would also advise you to take your pregnancy book thing you get from your mw "just in case"

Thanks Ellee, I'll take that advice. I'm flying with Monarch and they say you must be back before the beginning of your 34th week. Mind you, if I find I'm having twins all the flying plans may go out of the window (they run in our family and I'm feeling SOOOO sick at only 6 weeks!).
