TV or not TV ??

Just curious, how much time do your children spend watching television on an average per day? Don't be afraid to answer honestly whether it be hours upon hours or not at all....

When Aaralyn is home there is pretty much always either TV or Stereo on. Both are more for back ground noise while she's into playing with other things and the TV is usually on Noggin or Nickjr or PBS which are all channels that gear toward toddler to preschool age children.

We hear so much about how bad TV is but I find that Aaralyn learns alot from some of these programs when she actually sits and watches one from beginning to end (although, the Ads drive me nuts cuz she's at the "I want that" stage right now Wink ). I don't think it should be replacement for a parent's interaction but I find nothing wrong with her watching.

This may be a controversy in it self but she LOVES Spongebob and that's one of the few shoes that will keep her attention all the way through. But! she does say "oh barnicles" when she's frustrated with something instead of "OH Angry " and she knows NOT to act like Plankton or Squidward !! but Spongebob and Patrick and Sandy are nice ones Razz

we always have the TV or radio (on the TV) on ALL day when im at home but it is background noise. Joseph very rarely sits and watches anything during the day.

He does sit from 5.30-7 (has a story during that time as well) it is our we time- we talk about what we have done that day and talk about something that we are watching using nick JR or playhouse disney) He is then in bed at 7.

I think he has picked up some good things from the TV (he speaks spanish like Dora, remembers animal facts from Diego) He come out with thing I didnt know he knew and then he tells me thats what handy manny or mickey etc said. He does say 'oh pickles' when he makes a mistake (higgley town heros)

Aaralyn loves Scooby Doo too!! Unfortunately we have comcast (U.S. cable company) and they don't offer boomerang Sad Face I miss it...

We may be switching to Verizon Fios soon though, hopefully they will have boomerang Very happy

Charlotte and George have cbeebies on most of the time...tbh it drives me nuts lol, but no ads which is good Smile

They like to watch milkshake on channel 5 on a morning, they both like big school, thomas the tank engine, Charlotte loves Fifi and the flowertots Very happy

They don't watch it constantly though, they play with their toys, or just wander off upstairs to play lol. I've started to switch it off if no-ones watching or putting the radio on instead, George loves to have a dance haha!!

It is mainly background noise in our house too.

We drift between CBeebies, Nick Jr, and Boomerang for most of the day in the back ground even though they only sit and watch some of the programmes and mostly play and do their own thing.

mine dont usually have any telly in the day, expect for weekends and holidays when they get up and get into bed with me (im on a sofa bed in the living room long story!) so i get to dose while they watch milkshake!!

They usually watch one or 2 videos dependsing how long they are of an evening, and then a film a day at weekends. I hold my hands up to the fact that i need the time out it gives me, and with number three on the way it is just not possible to be the super involved parent all of the time!

When tara gets home from school she normally watches cartoons until tea time or plays the playstation. She will watch a video or dvd before she goes to bed as well.

Don't feel bad, half the time the tv and the stereo are going... Mike is addicted to CNBC (the stock/investment/money channel) so he always has that on for updates Wink )

He also leaves the tv on for the dogs when we're not there LOL...I've never seen the electric bill there... I'm sure I would be shocked if I did Shocked we do have all the energy saving light bulbs in now though Very happy
