Waking up 17 Month old

Hi, am new on here and have a question.

We have a lovely 17 month old girl and is brilliant during the day. However at night she turns into a little monster. Goes down well about 8pm, then between 3am and 4am she wakes up, with or without her dummy screaming the place down. she settles as soon as we pick her up. She kicks off in a tantrum if we put her back in her cot. We tried to put her in the travel cot in our room which worked last night, but the night before she ended up in our bed which we dont want to do, and I have to go sleep in the spare bed in her room. We thought she might be teething so we gave her medised but it didnt really help. Normally she has been sleeping through till about 7ish but all this week has been awful.

We travel to my inlaws a lot in london and sometimes she stays at my parents for 1 night and at both she is angel.

Any advice on what we can do please?

Thanks
David

My DD used to wake up every night in absolute hysterics, I'm talking screaming, kicking, flinging arms, bashing her legs against the wall so hard they bruised.

We used to try and calm her down, talk to her soothe her etc. Nothing worked. We eventually worked out she was waking because she needed the loo! We'd pick her up still screaming, put her on the loo and back in bed and she'd calm down within minutes of us walking out the room.

I'm not saying this is the case with your DD but sometimes they wake for no apparent reason and staying the the room/singing/talking etc actually makes it worse.

Hey snap, our daughter is also 17months and we are having the same problem, she has slept through the night right from 4months then this past couple of months its been just like what you descibed. We tried all sorts. Then realised that a couple of months ago we put a bumper round her cot so her dummy's couldn't drop out. i took it off 2 nights ago as a last resort of ideas, she has fingers crossed slept through both nights now.

HAve you put anything out of the ordinary in DD room? Confused

Hi thanks for your reply. we have changed nothing at all. I think it could be down to her teething.

We left her to cry last night and she fell asleep again. unfortunately, i didnt. But hey, I have decided that sleep is only for the weak.. Very happy Very happy
