Hi hun, I can't remember how old your son is?? I remember my sister was about 13 when she got a house key, then her and I were "latch key" kids, we would come home from school and she would look after me until our parents got home from work (I was about 10 then)

i also remember having a door key in junior school but each child is different - my mum trusted me with a door key and from the sounds of it you dont trust ur son with one and must have good reason hun xx

its not that i dont trust him hun its more the thought of him walkin home from school himself, the streets are not safe now, and i just think that 3 hrs home alone at 10 yrs old is a long time, maybe im just trying to be to over protective lol

I have to say I agree with the others, I think 10 is a bit young too. I was about 10 but I had my older sister to look after me... I got my own key when I was 11 but my sister was still always there. Good luck with your decision hun, but I think a 10 year old boy left to his own devices could get himself in a bit of trouble Shocked

I had a key when I started secondary school. I would pick my brothers up from primary and then walk back with them and cook dinner for when my parents got home at 5.30pm.

I wouldn't let my two have a key at that age, or expect them to cook my dinner! Maybe when they are around 14 for me. I think it will depend on how mature they are.
