I have a baby of 10 months and i still enjoy our time together when i am feeding her,but i have had a few really negative comments in the last couple of weeks and i'm not sure if i should carry on.
I was feeding her yesterday and a friend of my mum made a comment to someone else, that she thought it was discusting, and that it made her feel sick!
I felt quite ashamed, what should i do? Suspect

What a truly horrible thing to say!!

Carry on breastfeeding for as long as YOU feel comfortable with, it doesnt matter what anyone else thinks!! Mad

I breastfed my younger 3 til they were around 1 year old - Jordan was 14 months when I stopped her!!

Ignore silly, petty comments and feed for as long as you are happy with - you are doing a fab job Very happy

You shouldn't feel ashamed, you should feel proud that you've gone this long Very happy , I used to get snickers and comments under breaths from people when I breastfed my daughter in public... not like I whipped out my boob and said "hey everybody, look at my boobies!!" I did it very discreetly but still got looks... I didn't really care, I was proud to be a breastfeeder... keep doing it until you don't want to or she doesn't want it anymore, I say! Very happy

I think it's a bloody miracle you've been able to stick with it so long. If you want to stop then ok but only if you're doing it for YOU and your DAUGHTER as you've done a great job. But don't do it for some gossiping old witch. Fair enough if you were breast feeding a child of school age or something I could understand the comment but at 10 months she's still a baby Baby and it's perfectly normal

People critise you for BF or not BF your baby. Your doing a brill job, I only lasted two weeks. Your Health visitor would of said to stop if your baby was too old for it, take no notice of other people. Its your child and if you feel comfortable doing it carry on.

Some people really don't know when not to open their big fat mouths eh?..well, you go ahead and Breastfeed your baby, it is afterall the best way to give them the anti bodies and nutrients that powders can't give them.

Really, was this woman flat chested, maybe she was jealous that you actually have breasts Wink

emma,
your doig a great job and don't take a blind bit of notice Kiss Your baby is far more important than a few people who are too prude to handle you doing what nature intended.

Sheesh, that came across a bit strond didn't it Very happy

I nearly stopped when abigail was about that age as i couldn't face feeding in public anymore due to the looks and stuff, i did carry on feeding til 14months but certainly avoided feeding in public once she was 8/9 months. I really wish i hadn't let it effect us and i do feel really pleased that abigail self weaned and never had a bottle/formula.

Seriously though you've done all the hard work and feeding is all established now you can just enjoy it with your little one Smile Good Luck

I have decided that i'm going to carry on feeding my baby for as long as she likes! I took the bad comments to heart and let them drown out all of the good reasons to feed her!Thankyou for helping me with my decision.xxx Very happy

Good for you hun! I wish I could have BF George but it didn't work out.

It annoys me how people make comments about it being disgusting, it's not it is natural. My best mate has just had a baby and she is breast feeding but she gets comments off her own mother about it not being right Tounge Out She is made to go sit in another room to feed her daughter when she is round there!
