going to bed hungry

Tonight we had a bean chilli for tea and normally Joseph would get some but my hand slipped and I put into much chilli powder for him Embarassed anyway asked him what he wanted and he asked if he could have a pizza, which I made him and then he PICKED Mad aarrrggghhh why ask for something if you don't want it (if he had had the chilli and not eaten it because it was hot I would have been fine).

Anyway he is sat here saying "i'm hungry" well big bad Mummy has said as he didn't eat his tea he can go to bed hungry- now he is crying and saying his tummy is hungry Sad Face

I feel at nearly 4 he shouldn't get his own way about this and because he asked for the pizza and didn't eat it he shouldn't get anything else.

Am I being cruel???

no, i think kids should learn. I have a hard time with megs over dinners. She eats some then says she's full after only a few mouthfuls.. then promptly asks whats for pudding! Teeth Mad

I think you played this one well, hopefully yr little one will learn that he cant ask for something then not eat it. Have you got any of the pizza left? Maybe give him some pizza cold, he may eat it now lol

YOu did do the right thing hun. My kids have often done this so they have gone to bed without anything to eat - it doesnt stop me feeling bad though and on a couple of occasions I have done them some toast before they go up

You did the right thing hun. The rules in our house are simple, and they go for charlie as well and she is 2. If you eat breakfast, you get a little something more - extra fruit or youghurt or something. I fthey havent eaten breakfast then no snack. They only get pudding at mealtimes if they eat their dinner.

The only time i may waver a bit, is if it is new food and i genuinely dont know whether they like it or not. If it something they would normally eat then they have to eat it. I wouldnt ever force my child to sit there and eat it all. They just dont get anything else.

Oh and if they dont eat properly they loose their nice drinks - like milk and juice. and they only can have water until the next mealtime.

So harsh!

Hun you did the right thing.

Charlotte begged for a bowl of ceral yesterday for her breakfast then ate two mouthfuls and said she was full. I told her she wasn't allowed anything else until 11am when she has an apple and a yoghurt. 5 mins later she was asking for toast Teeth

I told her she had to wait and she kicked up a right stink. She sulked until 11 and when I asked her if she wanted a yoghurt...'no don't like yoghurts' then what about an apple 'no don't like them' Suspect So she got told she couldn't have anything else and she told me she wants a chocolate biscuit like NOW! I gave in and let her have the biscuit Embarassed Tounge Out I'm such a sucker.
