Most of the times you have to chose proper words to say it like. I suspect most people making this statement are trying to let the parents know that the child seems to be doing very well. Words like: “You guys must have worked really hard because he looks like he’s doing awesome!” might be preferable to many parents. So try to think before you speak. Hope you all got it.
