Hi everyone!
When did you start giving egg whites to your toddler? My son is 20 months old and I know this is old enough to give him eggs (together with the whites), but I still feel hesitant. However, he does eat pancakes every week (and there are egg whites in them). Does this mean that I can give him boiled or scrambled eggs, for example?
Thanks a lot in advance!
I started to give egg whites to my children after they were one year old. I didn't give my eldest son so soon, as I was thinking it's okay to wait for awhile more. When my second child was reaching one year old, the pediatrician advised us to give her try out the whole egg as soon as she reached one year old. If there is any reaction, the doctor can help to find out earlier, and he recommended us not to wait for too long as well.
So, I guess it should be fine to give egg white to the toddler once he is one year old.
My son had atopic dermatitis when he was a few months old. We had him tested for possible allergies and guess what, egg white is one of them. So we didn't feed him that for a while since it can aggravate his atopic dermatitis. When he was about a year and a half old, his skin condition became better. It started disappearing until it was completely gone. So then. we started giving him those foods that he was supposed to be allergic with. Just to maybe build up his immunity against them.
So I would advise that you wait until a year old or more. Some foods are high risk for allergies just like eggs and seafoods. Eggs are okay to be given after a year. But with seafoods, they normally advice to give it at 3 years old. Anyway, just ry giving your son little bits before giving him a full meal of egg whites. Good luck!
