o.c.d

Hi..I was just wondering if anyone has or knows anyone with o.c.d?

I think mt boyfriend has it, hes 21 and i wanted some advice on how i could help him to control it...
He has the urge to clean all the time, and its not just a quick once over..he polishes everything to the curtain pole to in between the bed posts..and its also the car..

He has told me he doesn't like to clean..but in his mind its telling him too..he can't sit there if he sees a bit of fluff on the floor he has to hoover it..

I can't eat in the car cause he is constantly watching me to see if there are any bits...he wont go to the doctors cause he thinks people will think hes a freak...we have a 5 weeks old daughter and when shes walking she is going to make a mess and i just want to help him control it so he doesn't over react when she makes a mess... I don't think he would ever stress out enough to hurt anyone but its always on my mind...

I really hope someone can help me..Or put me in touch with someone that can

Getting people to admit to problems is hard but if he does Cognitive Therapy could help in just a few weeks

I know OCD can be very serious, but the first comment that popped into my head-was -send him to my house for a few days-need a good cleaning- Very happy

Ok-I know that was not constructive, but as a nurse I tend to have a black sense of humor about things-especially medical related.

Hope he does get help though-it's important.

hi,
i have seen hypnosis work. You could trick him there, sounds harsh but at least you will get him there and he might be interested to see of it works. Tell him you are going somewhere to get advice about babies and when you get there tell him it would really make you happy if he would try it. There must be some sort of audio tape out there too, those that you listen to whilst sleeping (if the first option seems too bad, hehe)
I had o.c.d when my son was born, I knew I had it but it just went on it's own.
Sorry I can't help more.

Hypnosis needs someones cooperation so don't think tricking would do it. Have you tried looking on the internet for articles and treatments for OCD? Maybe print some out and leave them around for him to read. Sometimes seeing you symptoms in black and white helps you realize you need help.

Good luck and keep us updated.

Hi.. I got my boyfriend to do the test that candgsmum found on Google..I mad him do it and it told him he had extreme o.c.d and he needs to see a doctor..Looking at it made him realize that he as a problem and he is considering going to see the doctor..i'm going to print some stories other people have put on the Internet out so he knows what other people are going through and how hard it was for them to see a doctor..

So thanks cadgsmum for finding me the test xx
