Are you part of a play group?

Are you or have you ever been in a playgroup? When my kids were little we joined a play group with area moms. We would meet up at the park to play twice a week. My kids made friends and so did I. Those relationships with the other playgroup moms are still very important to me to this day. What are your experiences with playgroups?

I have never been a part of a play group even though I really wanted to. I am a very shy person and it is hard for me to meet new people. I also worked full time and did not really have the time to join a group. I think it is a great idea though to be able to share experiences with other moms with kids that are close in age to yours and also to learn from them if you needed to. I would recommend it to others since it is such a good idea.

I have a few moms here that had children around the same time as I had my daughter, and we get together about once a week so that the kids can play and interact. It's good, because we all get along quite well as parents too, so that is good for us moms as well to have some time to socialize!

I joined a play group when my elder son was 3 years old, and I was still pregnant with my second child. That was a Waldorf inspired play group, which I knew them from the Waldorf Education course I attended.

It was a small group, just 3 families and 4 kids. We met once a week in one of the member's house. It was great, as I just started to learn about Waldorf Education, and they have shared many good information and knowledge with me. We tried to follow how Waldorf kindergarten does - having morning circle, free play, might have a handwork session, then have morning snack or brunch together, at last we have storytelling time.

The playgroup lasted for about one year plus, and stopped, as they started to send the children to kindergarten though at first all of us thought of homeschooling our children. It was really a great experience.
