I was just thinking this morning about my daughter's first steps... and the look on her face when she realized she was actually walking.
My husband had always said that she'd walk before her first birthday, but it was getting very close and she hadn't tried to go beyond just standing against things... hadn't let go yet.
So one morning he was ready to go out the door for work and she started walking toward him many steps at a time... ONE DAY before her first birthday, so he had been right after all!
Did your kids just start walking like that all of sudden with a lot of steps at once, or more like a step/fall/get up/step/fall pattern?
I agree. I love how my daughters shined with pure happiness taking their first steps. It was the most wonderful look they gave. I am so lucky I was able to get their first steps on video.

I am currently waiting for my third daughter to walk she will be turning 1 on March 31 but still holds on to things. I hope she will walk soon. ; )
My little one sort of started by holding furniture, and getting pretty quick at moving around holding our couch and ottomans to get from place to place. Then I think slowly but surely she realized that she could take a step without holding the furniture...and then another and another. It was pretty amazing to watch, and just see how she pieced it all together. A very special time for both the little ones and us as parents - although I definitely understand now when people told me the challenge level grows as they get more mobile!
It is such a wonderful experience to see your kids take their first step. Mine started holding furniture in his late six months and eventually started taking the first steps at eight months. He was too fast physically and still struggles to speak English when he will turn 3 soon. He is comfortable with his baby language.
My son is starting to hold on to furnitures and trying to pull himself up.

I was so excited when he was able to hold on to our couch and stand up for a minute. He is my first baby and I really have no idea how long it takes for them to start walking. Any idea what the usual age is for them to start standing up on their own?
I consider myself to be one of the luckiest people out there, because I was able to catch the first steps of our second child on video and we watch it from time to time and it brings us a lot of joy. I think that we are all lucky to live in a time when we have video to begin with when it comes to capturing those moments, and to get lucky with the timing just added to that for me.
