Charlotte's birth:
I was 11 days overdue when I went in the hospital to be induced. My DH and my mum came with me and we went in for around 7.30pm. I was monitored and the at about 9ish I was given some gel and was monitored again for about 30 mins, the mw told me I would probably need more gel in the morning. I started with a few pains but just told that they were staring pains and given some paracetamol. My DH and my mum went home as visiting time was over so I thought I would get my head down for some sleep. I started to get really sharp pains approx every 5 mins so walked up and down the ward but the other ladies started to settle down for the night so I didn't want to disturb them.
I kept feeling like I needed the loo so I was up and down like a yoyo and by this time my pains were really strong and went upto the desk and told the mw I was really struggling, I was told I was having starting pains and to get a bath, which did nothing I had to get out of the bath and go back to the front desk as I was doubled over and wasn't able to move when I had a contraction. The mw examined me and said I was actually 3cms dialated and strapped me to a monitor again. I asked for pain relief and got told I could have pethidine as the delivery suite was too busy and the anethatist was not there at the moment for epidurals. It worked almost immediately and I went off to sleep. I woke up at about 2am needing a wee so trotted off to the toilet where my waters went and had a show. I told the mw and he examined me a realised I was fully dialated! He rushed off to phone my DH and then rushed me down to the delivery suite. I was handed over to another mw, she started asking me questions and I just shouted I needed to push, she quickly examined me and said ok. My DH turned up 10 mins later, Charlotte pooed on the way out and was suctioned but was fine, she was born at 3.03am weighing 7lbs 7oz.
George's birth:
I wanted a homebirth this time and I was a little scared that I could only have Gas and Air for pain relief so I hired a TENs machine. I was 4 days overdue and wasn't expecting anything to happen yet as Charlotte was really overdue. We had been told by my mw that he had expected him to be born over the weekend so me and DH had joked that he was wrong as it was now Monday.
I had just settled Charlotte in bed and flopped into the armchair to watch a bit of TV and almost immediately jumped back up with a sharp pain in my side. I didn't think much of it and sat back down. 20 mins later I had another one this time I realised it was a contraction. My DH wasn't too bothered so I just leant on a gym ball and eventually put on my tens. They started coming at really odd intervals every four mins to one on top of the other I was hoping they would get in some sort of rythm but suddenly just came every minute or so. I was just breathing through a contraction when I felt a trickling and a huge urge to push! I made DH get onto the delivery suite and send out a mw and then onto my mum. My mum turned up to find me climbing the stairs to go to the loo where I had a show then the mw came flying up the stairs to find me having a huge contraction. She made me go downstairs to the living room where I'd planned to give birth, DH hadn't even put anything down on the floor yet! He was running around and got the plastic down just as my waters went! They were pea soup green, the mw wanted to get the monitor on me to check George his heart beat was only 60 a minute so she sent Martin off to ring the delivery suite to send an ambulance and find out where the 2nd mw was as she hadn't showed up. He was out in the hallway when he was born and missed it all. George was out in 2 pushes but was really pale and wasn't breathing properly, we found a tight knot in his cord. I remember the paramedics turning up and then the 2nd mw, we all laughed when a taxi turned up with the gas and air, a little bit late! We went to the hospital where George was taken to Special care as his temperature was also very low and his breathing needed to be stablised, he was ok by the morning and we were allowed to go home.
I managed to do it all with no pain relief at all but boy I felt every milimetre of his head coming out! George was born at 9.52pm weighing 7lbs 5oz, less than 3 hrs from feeling the first contraction! |

Twin birth story…..MIGHT UPSET U!!!!
I found out I was preggers and at 5 an a half weeks I started spotting, went for a scan and they told me I was having twins. I was in shock at the time. But got used to the idea, looked forward to buying 2 of everythin. The pregnancy ran smoothly until I went for a scan at 28 weeks to be told that one of my girls was very small and that there was no amniotic fluid around her and there was also very little blood going thru the placenta.
I had to go to the hospital every Thursday to see if there was any progress, and each time baby 1 was getting smaller and the blood flow was now reverse, they said that they could deliver when I wanted to but decided the longer the babies were inside the better chance baby 2 had.
At 32 weeks I woke up at 4.10 in the morning on 7th June with a very uncomfortable pain in my back, my fiancé woke up and I told him. he said he wouldn’t bother to go to work, but I told him to as I didn’t think I was in labour,
I phoned the hospital at 9am and they told me to go straight in, so I phone john out of work he picked me up and took me straight there,
They checked my blood pressure and it turned out I had pre-eclampsia and I WAS in labour. By now I was 3cm dilated and scared for my babies I would need to go for an emergency c-section. They were preparing me for about 40 minutes (2 needles in my arms a drip and some thing that monitored my BP) by the time I got to theatre I was in agony. As they were about to put the spinal block in I had a massive contraction, they continued to do the spinal block, then they realized baby 1s head was almost out so they said I was to push them both (which was awful as I couldn’t feel anything) John came in the theatre expecting me to have a c section and I was pushing when he walked thru the door ( I think he was a little confused) I started to push and they said that baby 1 was out, then the doctor come up to us and told us that she never made it and died whilst she was on her way out, this upset us both loads but I knew I had to get baby 2 out. She was breech so that caused a few problems, I pushed her out and had a quick glimpse of her before they wisked her away to scbu. She was so tiny.
I needed stitches as I had to be cut
baby 1 was 1lb 9oz (Josie-Anne)
baby 2 was 3lb 8oz (ellie-mae)
it was awful as I was attached to machine for 24 hours after labour, so I didn’t get to see baby 2 until the following day
it really did feel like I had lost both babies at the time
ellie-mae had to stay in hospital for 3 weeks before we could bring her home.
We buried her sister on the 11 July 2005, after a lot of drama from the hospital. we were sortin out her funeral ourselves but the hospital presumed we wanted them to do it. so they got there own funeral directers, an they came and took my baby to there chapel. i remember walkin up to where she was to see her for the FIRST time an they were like hello samantha your baby has been taken to the coop funeral directors. believe me i went bazerk. it took them 2 days to bring her back to the hospital.. and THEN they asked me if i wanted a postmortam done an i went mental again sayin "do u not think u have messed her around enough. i was really upset because of the amount of time it took gettin her from coop and then going with painters funeral directors, my mom went to see her and actually advised me NOT to go because she had detiorated so much. i blame the hospital for me not baing able to say goodbye to my daughter It was very mixed emotions, not knowing weather to be upset of our loss or happy for our gain
oh hun it must have been a bitter sweet time my bro and sil went through the samr thing. Also just wanted to let you know my name is also Josie-Ann but i only use Josie and i love that name xxxxx |

Ok heres my birth story
I had a relatively straight forward pregnancy everything was fine. I was due on the 27th August 2006 (which was bank holiday saturday and I live and was booked into a hospital in a very busy seaside resort. So I was very much hoping I wouldnt go into labour then as getting to the hospital would be a nightmare.
I woke up at 6am on Tuesday 22nd August with these pains across my stomach I didnt pay much attention to them as it wasnt my due date (stupid but anyway) I eventually I woke up my OH and said that I was getting these stomach cramps and that I'd probably eaten something bad and that I wanted to go the shops and get some pink babygrows as cos I was having a girl and wanted something pink to put her in (every mothers thing when they know what they are having) so we went across to weston to mothercare and I got some baby grows and I was moaning that pains where getting worse and my OH was like I think your in labour and I was like I cant be its my due date. Turned out I was and at about 4pm on the tuesday afternoon I went to the hospital and they gave me an examination and said that I had only just started to dilate and I'd be better off at home.
So back off home we went my mum was the emergency taxi run to the hospital and dropped us back off at out flat where I had a nice hot bath like the hospital said which helped until I got out the bath.. I couldnt do anything I struggled to get comfy etc and in the end my OH rung the hospital and I went back across at about 3 or 4am and got checked and was told I was 5cm and taken to the delivery room unfortunately as it was a small midwife based unit there was only 2 delivery suites and the one I was in was needed for someone who was alot further on than me so I was moved into a small side room at about 10am I got moved back into a delivery suite checked and I was now 7cms and the pain was getting so bad I opted for the gas and air (amazing stuff) and I had a student midwife who stayed with me from 11am right through until after I'd given birth (she actually phoned her daughter and cancelled their plans for the afternoon as she really wanted to stay with me which I thought was quite sweet)
At 2pm I got checked again and in 4 hours I'd gone from 7cm to 8cm as you can imagine so they decied then they were going to break my waters for me and to help speed me along.
I dont remember when time wise it was I said I was ready to push, I just remember having to be checked twice to make sure there was no cervix (downside of having a student midwife every check was done twice) and at 1818 on wednesday 23rd August after just over 36 hours of contractions and no sleep her head finally came out though I had to stop pushing then as they had to use some suction on her as she has pooed on her way out so when they done that I had finally given birth to my beautiful Izzabella Natalya who weighed 7lb 6oz.
I had the injection which helped bring on my placenta and that was all delivered fine and I was very lucky and didnt need any stitches I just had some minor grazes (which were painful enough when going to the bathroom)
I stayed in the hospital until Saturday afternoon the first night the night midwife looked after izzy for me in the nursery and the 2nd night I looked after her though they did have to wake me up because she was crying and the 3rd night the day I was due to go home after several times of getting up with her the night midwife said that she would look after her and wake me up if they were any problems.
I guess I had quite a straight forward pregnancy and labour and I had a great little girl who started sleeping through the night from 6 weeks old I was very lucky baby wise unfortunately for myself I started to suffer from PND which I recognised and got help for. |
