Hi Evreyone...9 year old daughter problems...ADVICE needed!

Hiya

Need some help/advice please....

...I have a beautiful (well most of the time!) 9 year old daughter and she has a 3 year old brother. The school offered us a trip for her a year ago to France (for June 2010), and my inital reaction was no way, shes too young to care for herself for a week hygiene wise. My husband talked me into letting her go and my sofer side was already half way convinced just for her to exerience the trip. We said OK as we have a year for her to learn oral hygeine as shes always had an issue with this unless you keep on her back daily. This was the condition that she was allowed to go, over the moon as you can imagine.

Anyhow, we have bought her a timer for her to time 2 full min, amount to paste to use, showed her repetitively how to brush front/back/sides, tounge scraper, took her to the dentist for a pep talk, bought her kiddy mouthwash and showed her how to floss. And inbewteen she even had a dentist visit her class, and she came home all full of enthusiasm... after this visit. A year later she is still no further along the way 3 daoys out of five, there are issues. Am I expecting to much from her? Or is she playing us just ignoring/can't be bothered attitude?

And her breath can sometimes smell if its a day that I am unable to supervise her brushing, I am concerned that kids can be nasty, and she will be there for a week without me helping to supervise her. I feel like I am overreacting/going nuts. As the year is nearly up. Her teeth are in perfect condition no filling eats min sweets etc.

She has started to lie and its causeing rows between her, myself and my husband. Its really becoming an issue for us, and is becoming a nightmare...

Thanks for reading xxx

Thanks Bunnigirl...
Really appreciate your words. It a difficult situation, I truly feel at 9 she is defiantely capable, but keep second guessing myself as its been a year, and they just pull at your heart strings full stop. When I ask her whats going on I get the standard "Dunno Mum" 9Yr Old ansa and a shrug of her shoulders.
Very very very Frustrating! Banging head against a brick wall!
Hope you have a good weekend hunni xxxx
