Since moving in November from an 8th floor tower block to a 1st floor, we have been trying to get the coucnil to look at our kitchen which is in a state. They were trying to say that it was in satidfactory condition when there are no tiles or covering on the wall, the air vent is blocked up with newspaper, the wire mess in the wall can be seen. Each time we were contacting them we were getting told we cant have any help as we done an exchange. So finally we were told to send in a letter of appeal which i took in by hand last week we have just got a phonecall saying someone will be out next tuesday to inspect the kitchen woohoooo finally getting somewhere Smile

This is the trouble with exchanging. We did a mutual exchange a month ago and we were told that any damage or alterations done by the previous tenant who we swapped with would be for them to put right, unless we signed to say we accepted the property in this condition. BUT any structural problems were down to the housing association. So I brought up with them an issue I had with the seal of one of the toilets and also in one of the bedrooms where some of the ceiling was damaged and needed re-plastering. The toilet was done but I've heard no more about the ceiling! It's not absolutely awful, not actually dangerous or likely to fall down on us BUT where it is just above the window and curtain rail it means that it's really hard to close the window once it's open and obviously you do want to open your window sometimes!! I haven't got back onto them yet as I just can't be arsed at the moment but I guess I'll have to once we're back in our usual routine!

The reason we accepted it was because we were on 8th floor before and also we have a shared garden here too, but hopefully now something will get done. Roll on next tuesday to find out

Phone the HSC and have them look at the property, if the kitchen fails the council have to re-house you in a house/flat that the HSC pass until they sort out your current flat.

OMG whata re the council playing at? You have young children and their safety should be the main concern of the council even with exchangers. A friend of mine has just been moved house for 2 reason's, but the main reason was the condition of her house she was in. The council have been in and out of her house all this year doing work that needs doing and the last job that needs doing they can't do with people living in the house. Instead of moving her to tempary house they moved her and told her that the new house is her permanant home as they would only have to move her again from the old house next year when her eldest turns 10 as he won't be allowed to share a room with his sister then.

Good lcuk with Tuesday and I hope things go your way and the council either get the work done in the safest way possible with-out affect your routine with the children or move you to a safeer house while they do the work. I was going to exchange with another parent's mother I know but I think I willl eave it after the all the problems people have been having with there council at the moment, I think i will wait until a house comes available with the company I am already with

OMG that is terrible. I hope they get it sorted tomorrow. If not I would most defo contact H&S and get them into look around. The council will have no choice but to deal with the problems then as H&S will give them a dead-line to get the problems dealt with.

Well its 10.52am and the bloke has just left, looking positive although will be a long wait. He said if it was his choice weather to allow he would say yes but he has to go back and take it up with the higher ups, he took photos and said it will be about 3/4 weeks to hear their decision and if they say yes (which he cant c any reason why they would refuse) then they have to inform the contractors who will put us on a waiting list which when we finally make our way to the top, they will come out and do a kitchen plan and then order the parts which will then take up to 6 weeks to come through. Annoying but one step closer. Roll on the new year now as i really cant see things being done this side of christmas. WOOP WOOP good day so far

That is brilliant news. So glad the inspection went so well for you yesterday. Fingers corssed the high ups say yes and they tell the constructors to put it through as an urgent job and it gets done quicker for you

That is brilliant news. Why oh why are they making you wait until 2010? I know it is just over 2 months until we are 2010 but why can't they think there are young children in this house lets get the work done quicker for there safety if nothing else.
