Sterilising abroad

Hi folks

We're off to Spain shortly and I wondered if anyone had any tips if I need to sterilise abroad and how best to clean Sophie's cups, etc. I'm guessing boiled bottled water?

Can anyone offer advice?

any kind of boiled water. By boiling tap water you are killing off the germs anyway. I personally wouldn't go out to buy bottled water just to boil.

When we went overseas we used the boiling water method and our LO was fine.We mainly stayed in hotels and the staff were great they sterilized our bottles in a pot of boiling water or in a microwave.If you are staying in a self contained appartment and they have a microwave you could purchase a microwave sterilizer (they arnt to bulky or expensive)or you can buy sterilizing tablets that you drop into cold water and leave the bottles for a few hours or over night to soak.Hope you have a great holiday hun.

I've sterilised in the caravan and i just used cold water with sterilising fluid/tablets in a cold water steriliser. You can just get the bottles out as you need them, the water needs to be changed once a day (every 24hrs).

I've not done it abroad so I'm not sure how it would work using Spanish water from the tap although I know sterilising fluid can be used to make water safe for drinking, maybe its worth still boiling the water before adding it to the steriliser.

You can buy ready sterilised bottles too but you'd probably need a suitcase just for the bottles and possibly very expensive.

LOL, you're right there We've got a pack from Boots and will grab another one. I thought they'd be ideal in the hand luggage with carton milk in case we're delayed or Sophie fancies an extra feed. Also, I thought they'd be a good option once we get there so I don't have to chase around to get things sterilising immediately

Look at what your airline allows, my brother-in-law flew with my niece a few weeks ago, he had some still half frozen breast milk in his hand luggage and wasn't allowed to take it on the plane.

I would ring the airline or the tour operator to find out what they allow, but you cant take some fluids through check in but once you are through check in you can use bottled water to make any feed.

so you might wait till you are in the departure lounge before making any feeds

If you let them know you are allowed baby milk through security and many airports are relazing the 100ml limit
