Has anybody ever tried a spin class??

Okay, so I'm trying to shed my beer belly still. Been going to the gym for 18 months, and although I have seen some improvements in changing shape and increased strength, I haven't lost the one thing I wanted to lose at the beginning.
I know that recently I haven't been doing enough cardio and when I do cardio I probably don't push myself enough to make a huge difference. Hating running and having cycled from Lands End to John O'Groats (1000+ miles) last year I thought a spin class would be perfect. I mean what could be so hard about sitting on a bike and pedalling for 45 minutes? How wrong was I!!!
I was absolutely knackered afterwards, having suffered with cramp in my left hamstring and a stitch, plus not knowing when I was going to catch my breath (which turned out to be after a shower and driving home). That said being a masocist I'll be going back for more punishment as I'm sure its the right thing.
I lost 10lbs in twelve days cycling last year, and when I was younger I used to cycle everywhere. Back then I was skinny, so I'm hoping this will kick start the whole weight loss thing again. Anyway, kick boxing this evening.

A friend of mine had spinning classes after having a baby and she did lose weight. She's skinny and very healthy. She's living abroad and I don't know if she keeps on spinning, but I'm sure it really works!! You'll be in shape soon!!

Well I did another spin class on Monday night, and although it was hard work it was actually quite a bit of fun as well. Each instructor seems to work to a different way of training. So the first one was about achieving a certain rate of spin at different levels of difficulty and positions. This one was more about level of difficulty and changing positions. Hardest part was one phase where we would transition between the seat and standing every 4-8 seconds.

Anyway, two spin sessions, a weekend of bad food while moving house (KFC and Burger King) and I am 1.5kgs (4 lbs) lighter this morning. Maybe this was the kick up the arse I needed for the weight to start coming off. If I can lose another 12 kg (26 lbs) I'll be happy. Maybe I'll reveal that six pack I've been working on for the last 18 months!!!

Need to start eating some more eggs and fish. I like smoked salmon with poached eggs for breakfast but I can't usually be bothered.

I love spin classes and I find they are great for motivating yourself when you're talking yourself out of exercise - music pumping, teacher screeching at you to increase intensity! Thumbs Up
