Cost of IVF, (ive lost Count)

When my husband and I discovered we needed IVF, we were devastated. To rub salt into the wound, we have to pay for all rounds of IVF because I have a 16 year old child. Each IVF is incredibly expensive. Its a small price to pay if successfull, but if not, it feels like a huge dent in our finances. We now have zero savings! Plus im not getting any younger!

Does any one know of any way we could lessen the financial load, ie, do you know of any hospitals that offer IVF to couples like us? We both work, but are not rich by any means. ( We get by.) I just feel that by the time I have saved for my next go, it'll be to late!

I don't understand how some couples can have multiple nhs goes, yet we get none. Help!

The NHS only offers one cycle per couple, no one receives multiple tries. Have you thought about something that is free and just as rewarding, possibly more, adoption?

My friend, who is embarking on fertility treatment as we speak, has been told that if it doesn't work she is entitled to 3 free IVF attempts on the nhs. They do not have any children between them though. I don't know if you could get funding/ help unless you entered into some kind of medical research programme, but then I don't know if there would be any relevant to your needs as I'm assuming you don't have other medical problems?

This is what I don't get...

because I have a child (aged 16) we don't even get 1 free go. My family and I have paid just as much into the NHS as anyone else. My husband and I have worked as well as study our whole lives. So why shouldnt we get a chance? I feel as if I am wasting precious time trying to save up for another go. I know that it will be worth every penny, but it takes time to save...and I'm not getting any younger. I know im not in this alone as there will be many others in the same boat! Nine years after finishing uni and im still working 2 jobs! Most people save for their holidays...whats a holiday?
