Where and how do you shop and why?

I've just registered with Tesco's and Asda's online shopping as never lived anywhere that they deliver to before.

Remarkably the new house is in a tiny remote(ish) village and surprisingly they do - which will be fab for when Mark is working away and i cannot be bothered to go out!

We usually shop at Morrisons - reason being that when we've shopped at Tesco or Asda we get half way around and the contents of our trolley seem to be alot higher than usual.

At the moment we use Aldi too for their offers on Fruit / Veg at the moment it's 69p - but has been as low as 39p for an item (for example Broccoli, Tomatoes, Pineapples, Oranges - etc etc).

We also buy most of our meat from a butchers, but there are weeks when we are running low and cannot make it so buy lean mince, bacon, stewing meat, the odd joint etc.

Just wondered where you guys shop and why...

I shop at tescos mostly (occasionally asda) We only really have a big tescos and asda near us, morrison and somerfields are little shops. The local big Asda is horrible, looks dirty and is always crowded. Our big tescos is lovely. Thumbs Up We have a smaller asda nearby but it is that SMALL so can;t get everything I need their.

Aldi and lidl are a drive away, I do wish Lidl was closer as they always seem to have good offers on.

There isn't much in our nearest town, there is a small Iceland, Somerfield and Lidl, there is a Morrisons out of town it is good for dvds but thats about it. We grow a lot of stuff, but to be honest we've been a bit lazy with that recently so sometimes we will go to a green grocers or a local farm as they just leave veg out in an open veg and you put your money in a pot so it is nice and easy plus there aren't any opening hours. We get all our meat from the butchers, where we used to live you could shoot your dinner. Then Co-op is the nearest place to buy loads of ice cream and general sugar filled goodies, the profiterolls(how do you spell that?) are absolutely amazing.

We shop at a huge Sainsburys near us that has everything from the pharmacy to clothes but also Waitrose as there is one within walking distance. It's very expensive in Waitrose despite them trying to tell you they price match Sainsburys (not sure which one - perhaps one in central London! Shrug ).

I tend to get deliveries as I find I buy far more when I walk around with a trolley than I do online. When I'm online shopping, I have a list of things I've run or am running out of and don't often buy more than those items, whereas when I'm walking around I tend to be distracted by displays of items I don't really need Embarassed The only problem is with the delivery charges being so high (really, £5-6 is quite a lot for every delivery no matter what the value), I only do a 'big shop' online.

We have tried Tesco too as we have a Tesco Express (is that right? They are the ones that sell everything from sandwiches to 50" plasma TVs aren't they? Anyway, it's enormous) which is ok but I really don't like their meat at all, even the finest range Sad

Always used to be Tesco, but now that I've moved I'm trying different shops as the only decent Tesco is a long way to go, and the Sainsburys just down the road is not great.

Never had a local butcher or green grocer but like the idea of supporting independents against the big chains, unfortunately with the hours I work I frequently find myself shopping at midnight.

Well i don't have any supermarkets really near to me (ie. that i can get to myself walking as i don't drive) but within 20mins we have all the big supermarkets and a small Lidl, Iceland and very small somerfield, and a smallish M&S. I tend to do most of my shopping at Sainsbury's as that is the nearest but there are certain things i can only get in certain shops so i tend to shop all over. I also buy my meat as much as possible from the butchers but isn't always possible. we also have a largish cheap independent supermarket near us which stocks loads of unusual things as well as electrical stuff etc. All the meat and veg is from local suppliers as well as a lot of their baked goods Thumbs Up . I also shop there a fair bit.
I have never used online shopping as i am always worried it will arrive all mangled up and have the shortest dates on the packet even though they promise to pick the longest date items. I mean how do you know they have?? They may just pick the 1st one that goes out of date tommorow? Seems those of you that use it don't have that problem though so maybe i should give it a try and see what happens?? Shrug Xx

I use Tesco. In our town it's Tesco or Sainsbury's and our Sainsbury's is a nightmare for parking and being dis-organised. Plus ~I like using my club card at Tesco; and looking round the upstairs for clothes, toys, presents etc when I need something. Sometimes I get them to deliver too.
