my daughter is 10 months old and my wife went back to work after 9 months , she breastfed on demand for 9 months and since returning to work is feeding morning and evening and not leaving expressed milk for the lunchtime feed and instead im using water only as im looking after my daughter during the day.

I have 2 questions

1. Is it safe to do without milk for up to an 8 hour period after been fed on demand up till now?

2. Is it ok to use full fat cows milk for breaking up food for a child under one?

Thanking any replies and advice in advance.

Much Appreciation

D

Don't give her water, it makes her feel full but denies her nutrients, is she on solids yet? It not her mother needs to pump and you pick it up during the day or switch to formula during the day. Not all women, but in a lot if you don't feed on demand the milk you do produce is more foremilk than anything, so even if you don't collect pumped milk from her work place she needs to pump otherwise your baby might not be getting many fats and ions from the breast milk.

Firstly welcomne to JP. I am mandy, mum of two!

I hope i don't confuse you here after what Sam said, but i assume from what you say you give your daughter water as a drink and with food (solids) and your wife feeds her a morning and evening milk feed. Personally i would say this sounds fine for a 10mth old baby. Obviously your baby is getting a lot of nutrients from food now so doesn't need as many from milk. I personally think water is fine if your daughter is eating as well. With a bottle fed baby they recommend around a pint of milk a day. I would think your wife is probably suffering more as she is used to feeding on demand and now is only feeding twice a day. Her milk supply's obviously ned to adjust to this and she may be feeling a little full and uncomfortable until her milk supply drops off a little.

As for the using full fat milk for food, this is fine in a baby over 6mth like Alex says Xx

Hi All

Am looking for some advice of possible as I at my wits end.

All advice will be very much appreciated.

My wife and I have 2 kids, one nearly 3 and the other 9 months.

Which child are you describing? because to calculations, in 3 months your 9 month old has aged 1 month. Am I missing something here?
