Facebook Scam...

I found this on a news website. i know quite a few of us use facebook so thought id share it.

The latest plan from the Nigerian scammers is to compromise a person's Facebook account, then send messages out to the friend list asking for cash.

These emails, dubbed the Nigerian 419 fraud, are commonly found in inboxes the world over, with bad spelling and grammar from a person claiming to be a Nigerian prince contacting their father's close business contact.

Well, apparently that's not working, so hacking into a person's Facebook account, pretending to be stranded somewhere without a phone and in urgent need of cash is the new way of doing things.

Usually the poor use of grammar might set the alarm bells ringing... but most people have at least one friend that thinks saying "Me crs now broked, can we do da ting laterz?" (An actual message from a TechRadarite's Facebook inbox) is alright.

Facebook account details have become hot property on the black market for this very reason, as receiving a message from someone via the 'Book is as good as a phone call to some people.

Programs that harvest the details are downloaded from a bogus Facebook message, often asking you to go to a video site to see a movie of yourself, and when asked to 'upgrade' the video player, malware is downloaded instead.

Best get safe from now on then... otherwise all your friends could be angry that you don't even acknowledge their attempts to help get you home.

That's good to know.... I'd never fall for that anyway... my friends would know better than to contact me for cash right now LOL... wouldn't be much help to them!

i recieved one of thoose see yourself ones luckily my OH was there and told me not to open it as it most likely is a scam the worst thingf was it came from a boy i met at school so he was on my friends list.

I also got this message the other day:

Do not accept a friend request from a CHRISTOPHER BUTTERFIELD he is a hacker. Tell everyone on your list because if somebody on your list adds him u get him on your list too and he'll figure out ur computer's ID and address, so copy and paste this message...

luckily I have a Mac and because programmers have yet to include Mac in their devious plans very little works!
Not that I would fall for a scam like that (I hope)

i dont fall for those and i always delete them, i also have very few applications on my facebook so that things like this dont happen

Me too, Mike's completely converted me to a MAC girl now! ok, Elementary, you may appreciate this one.... I work on a MAC and a PC, does that make me interspacial? LOL

We have had loads on messenger recently, Mart somehow got one on his and was sending all his friends a link without realising. Everytime I log on I get messages from my MIL and SIL with a zip file link.

Mart told them that they had a virus and to run a check on messenger...turns out they've never bothered putting any anti-virus on in the first place
