Fibromyalgia Sufferers

I wondered if anybody was affected by this condition as I suffer from it very badly and had my confirmed diagnosis earlier this year -though it has been getting progressively worse over the past 12 months. Would love to be able to talk to people going through the same thing.

awww bless your poor heart, I have been suffering with the symptoms of it (as DH grandmother has it and she suffer awfully from, intense pain) but I haven't been to the doctors yet to be officially diagnosed, because right now i am uninsured and insurance will not carry me with this (if it is pre-exsiting) So I am waiting for DH's insurance to kick in at work before I go.

what are you doing to manage yours?

With my fibro they have said it is more about management not cure. I recently spent a fortnight in a specialist rheumatology hospital so they could assess me properly and they have said it will be a slow process with physio etc as they dont want to excacerbate (sp) it and cause me too much pain. I have been told I may not ever hold down a full time job again (great, am 26) and to focus on the small achievements rather than just looking for big progression.

I have alot of physical exercises that I have to do and I am on tramadol and other pain killers -have been since last December now -and they help at times. I have to use a wheelchair when I leave the house, so it does restrict me alot and cause problems with making new friends. I am trying to learn to drive so I am more independant. but this is a slow progression as driving lessons knacker me out.

oh, bless you I am sorry to hear about your pain I often have days where I can't walk because my knees are swollen and my joint hurt so bad. Especially if I have been up for a while, so working full-time is out of the question. I just wish I could sleep

It is a day to day struggle, mostly manage it by knowing what my limit is and cutting things out of my diet. Lots of water! Massage and whirlpool helps too!

Have you tried Lyrica or Cymbalta? was on Flexeril but I was allergic as I am to many meds

My mum has had it for years and it really affects her life (not that I'm close with her), but I am really hoping I don't develop it as I have been suffering periodically with various problems since my early teens which I'm told could possibly be it. But I'm choosing to ignore it and carry on as normal. I find that when I exercise I feel better physically, but when I'm lazy I am in more discomfort and also if I eat loads of crap.

There is lots of research that says your diet and keeping your weight down will ease it but I don't know lots about it-hoping I wont ever have to.
I know they run special exercise and relaxation classes in my town designed for sufferers so maybe look into this in your area xx

Yes this helps a lot especially cutting certain things from your diet (dairy, breads (wheat and gluten), and doing low impact exercises, this is how I have to manage mine, as I am allergic to several of the meds.

thanks everyone - I am doing slimming world diet at the moment to help me be a skinnier me for my wedding next year. In that I make I eat lots of fruit and veg every day, so hopefully that will help.

Unfortunately have just had to have all my meds reduced yesterday as I am going through a prolonged flare up of the fibro and it doesn't seem to be easing -they have said if a flare up carries on for more than so many months then it may be the case that I have chronic fibromyalgia -which I really don't want

oh no I hate to hear this! I hope that it eases up soon.
