I can't believe I had to cry on the phone.....

before someone would actually help me.

We moved to this house in February of this year and I am beginning to think it is cursed. First thing to go wrong was BT managed to mess up our contract and billing which made our monthly payments £64 just for free evenings and weekends. It took us a fair amount of head bashing wall time to get that one sorted. I should have learnt my lesson really, but no.

We decide to move the gas and electricity from British Gas to Southern Electric as we'd been having terrible trouble with British Gas. So we changed over on the 8th April and thought everything was fine as everyone had the final meter reading. I first noticed something was wrong when we received a final demand from Southern Electric for our electric bill, at the time we had a pre payment meter. I phone them only to discover the money I had been charging onto the key Southern Electric sent was going straight to British Gas. We solved that problem by changing the meter.

Next a final gas bill for £196 dropped on our doormat, this was supposedly from 8th March - 8th April. Turns out British Gas had decided to disregard the meter reading I had given them and to pluck a random number out of the air. Several stress filled phone calls later with BG blaming SE for the mess up I finally got a revised bill for £9.26, which I paid the next day via cheque all done and dusted.

That was until today when I received a final, final, final bill from British Gas for £17.74. Turns out even though I gave them the correct final meter reading twice they had decided again to randomly pluck a number out of the air for the £9.26, but when they asked SE for the meter reading (the correct one) it differed from theirs so they billed me again. I phoned British Gas who blamed SE and refused to help. In the end I phoned SE in tears who said that the problem (and I know this to be true as SE has used the correct meter reading from the beginning) lay with BG and their random meter reading generations.

Southern Electric apologised for British Gas and have offered to pay the bill for me. Shame I had to blub down the phone to get some help, but that's customer service.

I shall never ever go back to British Gas, even if they were the last supplier on earth!

i cant stand british gas, i swithced from npower to BG and only lasted 4 weeks they were costing £5 more a week at least (were on meter).
now they wont leave me alone, every 3months they call, i dont answer unknown numbers so they ring 2-3times a day, they even called on bank holiday.

so i got my friend 2 answer as me n tell them if they dont stop calling ill get them done for harrasment.

you can register your mobile number and you can ring them and get them to take your number from their database, it takes up to 28 days for legal reasons, but they will do it if you ask them.

TPS will register your mobile number i registered the kids so they dont get crank or marketing calls

i had to cry on the phone to bg once when i was living in my old flat we had gas on card so my heating hot water and cooking etc was all on gas we moved in, in march so it was still quite cold and the card wouldnt work when we went to top up so they said they were sending me a new card which i never recieved in the meantime we had run out of gas so had none of the above and i was pregnant at the time i had to cry down the phone to get them to send out an engineer to put some emergency credit on it, i had to do this twice and the reason i wasnt getting the gas cards was because they were sending them to a previous tenant who had moved into another flat so he was taking them and didnt think to see why he was getting so many gas cards so eventually bg thaught they might take my details so i would actrually get them
