i do think though that 5 is a bit young to be sleeping out
I don't think so, it's a bit more of whether they are used to it or like it. Jas loved sleeping over at friends houses or family. It was a big adventure. If she has a friend over I do them a 'bed picnic' which is great fun. They sit in her room and have a supper together. It's all little bits like slices of apple, carrot, a few crisps, cherry tomatoes, etc and they love it
I've had a similar experience to you with one of her more 'whiney' friends some years ago. I tried to be nice when she started stamping her feet saying she wanted to go home and demanded I take her there (Jas was asleep and got woken up!) and I ended up telling her to behave herself and get to bed before I got really cross. Suffice to say I've not invited her again and actually, Jas didn't want her back as she thought she was rude.
It's a big learning curve with the wonders of sleepovers and something I didn't do as a child but it can be fab fun for you and the kids.
Good luck with it all
