Do you sensor the music your children listen to?

Just curious if you guys only allow your children to listen to certain kinds of music or do you let them pretty much listen to what ever you're listening to?

In our house, and this has always been with me and Aaralyn, I do not sensor what Aaralyn hear's as far as music goes. She listens to everything from children's music to classical, from hip hop (more good underground stuff though, not so much radio played, only cuz that's what I like) to classic rock, and from hard core rock to folk/hippy music. I feel that if she ever listens to certain lyrics and has a question about them then I will answer as honestly and best that I can.

So how bout you guys?

The only sort of censorship I use is when the language is not so hot, but otherwise anything goes

I tend too be a bit more picky about what I put on if I know theres swearing in it, but then my husband isn't, and he listens to more, um explicit, shall we say, stuff than me. I do ask him just to skip the worst stuff which he is OK with. Otherwise he will go listen to it somewhere else.

We usually have stuff on in the car the kids like, so usually it's the radio or Mika

Usually have the radio on most of the time which is pretty safe. I let the kids listen to any music, but try to avoid any strong language. For the words that are missed I just explain that its a naughty, rude word that shouldn't be repeated. Seems to work.

At the end of the day there are kids running around at 5 years old saying worse stuff so it doesn't really matter what we do any more, as long as we explain it.

I don't let them listen to one album I have which has swearing in all but 2 songs, but apart from that anything goes from heavy rock to cheesey pop

na izzy listens what i listen to which can be anything she even the other day tried to headbang to some heavy metal music with me LOL im starting her young woooo bring um up right proper music all the way!

Anything really. Mostly lots of radio in the car and around the house but occasionally albums and if a swear word comes up, Jas knows they are 'naughty' and will point them out but doesn't repeat. Mostly radio is 'edited' or 'censored' lyrics so she knows what the beep means

Did find it difficult to know what to say when she was singing Pink's "You and your hand" though and asked what she meant by that - I suggested the man was 'waving goodbye'...

We are real rock / indie music lovers in our household. Although we do also listen to anything else from clannad to cheesy pop etc etc.

The only albums i think we have with any swearing in is Sex Pistols and Guns n roses (sex pistols dp has on when he's on his own anyway as it's not my thing) and i think Eminem - which i haven't listened to in aaaaages!

Anything goes in this house most of the time (anything with really strong swearing- and lots of it I try to skip)

Joseph loves all sorts of music (he loves the Pirates of the Carribbean sound track just now)

I dont think he listens to the words really it is just a background noise

mainly chart or dance but in car radio or oasis( )hate oasis.

lee usually checks his music for language coz he listens to it at work if its ok.

anything with language we try not to use now as we worry casey will repeat, tho her grandads swear around her and shes never repeated yet.

were rockers tho lee likes heavier than me so u cant really understand alot.

casey used to fall asleep to iron maiden, now she likes paramore.

We are quite open with music always have been,we listen to alsorts with and with out swearing.Vic sings along but skips the BAD words lol
he did this all on his own with out us explaining anything so we have just continued playing what ever music.

my kids love Kerrang lol. i listen to Linkin Park, My Chemical Romance, 30 Seconds to Mars and a few more and they do occasionally swear but my kids know theyre not to repeat the words. i dont listen to Limp Bizkit in front of the kids as they go overboard lol

I just try to chnge what our son thinks the lyrics actually say.

I usually cough when I know there's a word coming up which I can't explain away too. Like in Kanye Wests "Golddigga" - unfortunately one of my sons favourites!

Oh I can relate to that... my daughter (who is bi-racial) came up singing the actual words (including the "n" word )... they obviosly sensor that on the radio so I think she must have heard another kid singing it or something... I bout fell over when she sang that she "ain't messin' with no broke n****", obviously having no clue the connotation of that word. I explained to her that it was not a nice word at all and just because she heard it in a song or someone else saying it does not make it ok for her to repeat it... I also said that it is one of the meanest words anyone can use and she's never said it since, thank goodness!

i let her to listen to whatever we are if she asks as she grows up she'll be told they are bad words that only adults say.
but at the mo shes more into jazz music and her childrens/cbeebies music lol
