Breastfeeding when returning to work

Hey,

I am planning on brestfeeding when my baby arrives. I will only have 4 months of this until i return to work and would like to continue with it, using pumped bottled breastmilk whilst i'm at work and brest when i am home.

The thing i don't completely understand is, when i return to work i will have an idea of when and how much my baby takes. Will my breasts not start producing more or less if i am expressing?

(This is so much harder to explain in writing) If i say returned on the monday i would express what i needed for this on the sunday evening?? So would my breasts not start making more expecting my baby to be eating more?

thats what i would of thought but sorry i dont know,
i only did it for a week but i guess when i started to pump, one side got bigger than the other because i couldnt do one side lol

Try to pump extra when you can and freeze it. Once you go back to work you'll have to pump at work when you fill up, store that for the next day. It's not easy to keep it up but if you can that's great. I went back to work when my DD was 7 months and I was able to pump ok then "they" (the boobs) wouldn't give anything up for the pump, only for DD so I got to where I was breastfeeding her in the morning and evenings and supplementing in between with formula (which she hated, so switched her to cow's milk) during the day. She ended up weaning herself at around 8 months old

Would it not be possible for you to express while you are at work? I know it sounds a bit unorthodox but I'm sure there is some legislation which allows bf mothers to have time out to express/feed their babies, while working?

Maybe it is worth having a word with your employers to see how they would stand on letting you do this?? As you say, you don't want your supply to decrease because you are unable to feed/express the same.

i do have breaks as i am a trainee nurse. Really starting to think about another career as i don't want to be missing everything whilst i'm at work.
