getting ready

my mum said that she read u can start early to get ready to do it for the baby expressing that is, is this true?
has anyone tried this? my pump has come and i was thinkin of having a go because i couldnt do it when kieran was born so if i tried now i will feel a bit better if it worked xxx

I've never heard that before but it does make sense... I'd phone your Dr about it and see what they say first.

same here ive never heard of anythin like this i guess my mum read it in a mag that someone did a couple of bottles just b4 the birth who knows,
i wouldnt do a couple tho i just wanna see if its gonna be painful like last time lol but still i will ask midwife b4 even doin anythin xx

just asked Dom, he works in a health centre for Paeds, and he said it's on the oddest things he's heard, shortly after birth you should be able to process maybe 2/3oz of milk, but thats when it's produced, theres no way you can try and process before the birth unless you are already breatsfeeding another child, all you would do is damage the milk ducts as they arent ready yet with milk waiting so they would cave in and block meaning you couldnt breastfeed at all

I've never heard that before but i do know you can freeze breast milk because when Kelvin was born he came 9 week's early and they had bottles of breast milk in the freezer they got me to express and freeze my milk

iv not heard of this either hun but to be honest i dont think its going to matter what you do before hand you either will or wont be able to hun i managed 3weeks - a month. and i done massages and moisturising. but you either can or cant i was upset but theres nothing you can do just to try again with the next. but yea if you wantto know for sure just ask your GP. x

I've heard electric are better than manual pumps, get a lot more out and more comfy.

I know one embarrassing moment during you know what, my dh tweaked my nipple (well in my defence it is supposed to bring on labour and I was about 40 weeks lol) and colostrum came out hehe! My dh said it looked liked runny custard PMSL!!!

I managed to express some for George shortly after he was born about 3mls and fed it to him through a syringe but he wouldn't latch on very well and only managed a few actual feeds from me. i managed to half formula half bf him for about 3 weeks.

its a whole! lot easier, i couldnt do it with a manual anymore, it's so much more simple and takes a lot less time too and when you got a house like ours, lol, thats a good thing

I never used a manual, my health insurance covered the electric breast pump believe it or not because of Aaralyn's premie-ness and that it was medically nescesary to pump if I wanted to breast feed cuz she was too little to latch on at first! That was Rhode Island state health coverage, no other state in this country has good health ins through the state as far as I know.

My friend Kristen found that she liked the manual better because it was easier to handle because it was smaller than the electric. so guess it's just a matter of personal choice

I used both the first time around,i still have my manual pump (it killed my hands).Our local chemist has electric ones for hire(the machine only)and you have to buy the attatchments.My midwife from the hospital came over for the first few weeks with her electric pump and i filled bottle after bottle and it wasnt uncomfortable at all very quick.

i bought my mini one off ebay for £18 new in box and all xxx

i got manual one from home and bargin for 3.99 it a chicco one.not much to loose if i dont use it i had electric for first and second and cudnt get hang off it
