Give your feedback on our ideas!

Hey gang,

I'm looking at tweaking some bits here at JustParents to make the site work better for our users, and hopefully to continue improving our community! I want to hear any and all feedback on the following proposed changes, whether you think they're a great idea or they suck really bad! This is your community, so make sure you have your say!

1. Users with less than 10 posts will not be able to put a link in a post
This would mainly to try and cut down on the amount of spammers who sign up to post an advertising message - I don't think geniune members will mind waiting a few posts until they can show off their WAHM site or favourite website! What do you think?

2. Images in posts will not show up to visitors who are not logged in
This is a request we've had, which doesn't take much doing and might just make members a little more comfortable in posting pictures. Bear in mind though that anyone can sign up here, so don't post pictures that you don't mind anyone seeing would be my advice Smile

3. Removal of 'Meetups and Communities' forums to allow for new forums
Looking at these, none have more than a dozen or so threads. We could group these into one 'meetup' forum which would free up space for new forums such as:
a. Swap shop - Members can swap and give unused baby/whatever items with other members
b. Promote your business - Removing the advertising posts from the WAHM forum might make that a better resource.
c. Green issues/Environmental forum
d. Breast-feeding forum
e. Loss/Bereavement forum
f. Media requests - for all those TV companies looking for mums!

These are just suggestions - I'm open to ideas Smile

4. New moderators and staff positions
We're getting to the stage now where a few more moderators would be useful, along with perhaps a few people to help me out with the general running of the site. If you are interested in any of the following, please PM me!
a. Being a forum moderator
b. Organising on-site competitions, and sourcing competition prizes from relevant companies.
c. Advertising sales - Finding ethical, relevant and interesting companies who would like to advertise on JP (For this position, we could offer a % commission for any advertising you attracted)
d. Writing articles and content for the main homepage and sections of the site
e. Promotor - Can you attract people to our website? Let me know how!

These positions are voluntary and unpaid (exception of advertising sales), but in the future I hope to be able to reward those who actively contribute to the running of JustParents Smile

----------

As I said, these changes are ones which I've been considering, but at the end of the day this is a site by and for it's members, so I want to hear what you think! And if you have any more suggestions or comments, please DO let me know, either in this thread or by Private Message.

1. Users with less than 10 posts will not be able to put a link in a post
excellent idea - have been sick of logging on and finding these spam posts - a couple of other sites that I have used only allow you to post links/advertise business when you have done a set number of posts.

2. Images in posts will not show up to visitors who are not logged in
Again, a good idea for those who do like to post pics though I wont post pics of my kiddies on the internet.

3. Removal of 'Meetups and Communities' forums to allow for new forums:
This might be a good idea but would there be an option to have it put back again as the site grows and more members are attracted??

Looking at these, none have more than a dozen or so threads. We could group these into one 'meetup' forum which would free up space for new forums such as:

a. Swap shop - Members can swap and give unused baby/whatever items with other members

like this idea

b. Promote your business - Removing the advertising posts from the WAHM forum might make that a better resource.
not sure how this would be different than it already is

c. Green issues/Environmental forum

good idea in the current climate

d. Breast-feeding forum

like this idea

e. Loss/Bereavement forum

very good idea - but will this be a forum that you would have to 'join'? Might make it feel more personal

f. Media requests - for all those TV companies looking for mums!
nice idea but have we had enough of these to warrant its own forum??

I notice you havent put 'After Dark' in with your suggestions Crazy lol

Great idea Rob

2. Images in posts will not show up to visitors who are not logged in
Great idea.

3. Removal of 'Meetups and Communities' forums to allow for new forums:
If it is not being used get rid I say

a. Swap shop - Members can swap and give unused baby/whatever items with other members

This is a good feature

b. Promote your business - Removing the advertising posts from the WAHM forum might make that a better resource.
not sure about this one Rob

c. Green issues/Environmental forum

good idea

d. Breast-feeding forum

good be a great place for support and advice

e. Loss/Bereavement forum

Good idea, this is a popular place and it also means those of us who havent been through this arent just having read iygwim. I think it is nice for people to share their expereinces

f. Media requests - for all those TV companies looking for mums!
Dont like this idea, many people just read these and never post in them, seems a waste of forum space to me

I think 1 and 2 are great ideas and I'm happy either way with the rest. I must say I've NEVER posted pictures up as I found it off-putting knowing anyone could look but if it's just members I'd feel better

Think they are all great ideas!

I have posted a few pics of my lo's so I like the idea of having to be a member to view them. Obviously it won't stop someone who is a member from veiwing them but at least if anything seems amiss we will know it is a member.

Keep up the great work xx

Since we introduced the function to stop new members linking in their first 5 posts, we've stopped 3 spammers - seems to be working really well! (I get an email with failed posts)

New forums are Loss/Bereavement, Breastfeeding, Single Parenting, Green Forum and Swap Shop. Hope they are useful for our members Smile
