panorama tonight 8pm a must see !!!

The maternity ward was to busy for me when I gave birth.On "This Morning" today they they talked about it and I tryed to call on the phone in, but they where to busy xx

take care all hope they sort out the midwife situation !!

There was a big thing on it on GMTV too. Didnt have time to sit and watch it so may watch this tonight instead.

I was just gonna start a thread for this but you beat me too it!!! LOL!

I'm desperate to train to be a midwife so would like an insight.

Also some of my friends that are pregnant at the moment have had shocking midwifery care.

One friend is nearly 15 weeks pregnant and she has had to chase for her dating scan and my other friend who is pregnant has also had to sort out most of her appointments herself as community mws and hospitals are just not communicating!

Im horrified and it has only been on for 15mins.

must admit that even my local hospital was rubbish my community mid wife kept chasing for my scam and so did i. seven weeks it okk to finally get a scan so i only had one. only got that cos the girl felt sorry for me and came in early to do it. i also went down to the delivery suit when my hips started to hurt so much i couldnt walk. they hooked me up annd left me for ages. all they cared about was the fact i dint have my notes on me. they didnt listen to a word i said and three members of staff who saw to me barely even spoke english and they kept leaving and dissapearing for ages. i was there for over 3 hours and came away with some anti biotics for a urine infection and possible spd diagnosis. i over heard 2 staff members slating a womwn just for having a home birth. i was so glad i decided to stay home there was no way i wanted to be stuck in a hospital with staff like that

What a horrific programme - so glad my baby making days are over but does make me wonder what it will be like for my daughters when they have their own famlies - hopefully it will have gotten better by then

I was born there.. mind you that was a few years ago now...

Have watched with utter horror the negligence these women suffered at the hands of the NHS.

They provided a number at the end of the programme for people to contact confidentially if they experienced similar problems. Lottie - I think you should contact them! (See Birth Stories Thread)

No it wasn't that one I meant, I think it was the MD of the hospital. I was annoyed that she was implying that it was the mws fault there were not enough beds.

I shouldn't have watched that program really it wound me up I felt so sad for the mums and dads in that program. It reduced me to tears

I didnt watch it properly, in and out. But the bits i saw just reinforced what unfortnatly too many of us already know. I spent 45 mins labouring in a waiting room (shared this poor woman who was waiting for her daughter to give birth!! lol) This was because despite haveing called to say I was on my way, the room hadnt even been cleaned so they couldnt put me in there. I had my daughter 45 mins later!

Saying that overall I have been very lucky. Most people I know have had very bad experiences, putting either them or their baby at some kind of risk.

A friend of mine is currently signed of work with post traumatic stress disorder from the birth of her daughter. I wont go into all the details but her counciller strongly recommends she sues the NHS for malpractice or negligence or whatever it will come under!

They go on about limited midwifes, but i know that in derbyshire when i was studying - others were on an acess to midwifery course and were told that out of 250 applicants there were only 12 spaces for midwife training! useless!

i just caught the end of this programme & was horrified. i had heard it went on, but didn't experience anything like this at all where i delivered (Exeter). i had lots of wonderful midwives & was never left alone during delivery, i was very well cared for. As it should be.

i missed it but what i have just read it seems terrible how could women be treated like that

I watched this,it made me feel quite lucky that having my two went so smoothly. It seems the quicker you can get in and out of the hospital the better which is a shame as giving birth should be a time of pampering,support and comfort

me with my secong only saw the midwife 2 time and i had the threat of preaclampsia and was in hospital under an hour with her before i was sent home shoundn't be like that
